1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto For Sale in Urbana, Illinois 61802
In 1966 Alfa Romeo produced what might be called the "Beta edition" of the Duetto. The first years production was very limited and Alfa Romeo did not generally export it to the United States. Today the 1966 edition is rare in the United States and elsewhere. Purchased in 1976 in Vicenza Italy, this car listed is in very good condition. It has never been restored, but well maintained. Finding a market value for this gem is difficult. Extrapolating from National Automobile Dealers Association data the asking price tops out at $140,000. Asking price for this car is $110,000.

Seller's Notes: Even if you aren't a collector of Alfa Romeos or Italian sports cars in general, you will want to consider owning this very special car. It's a fun car to drive with a soft ride and easy handling. It's a classic, a 50-year-old design that still looks good today. In fact, this car may look better today than the day I bought it. (see below)
The Alfa Romeo "Spider 1600" was introduced to the world on March 10th, 1966. The unofficial name for the first generation of this Italian classic is "Duettoâ€, implying a small car built for two. The Duetto was a major change in design for Alfa Romeo, so in 1966 Alfa Romeo chose to hold their card close to their vest and did not sell the Duetto in the United States. American had to wait till 1967 to get their hands on one. After the Duetto made an appearance in the movie The Graduate it became very popular in the U. S. The car I'm selling was number 700 off the line. You'll be hard pressed to find a Duetto built earlier. Like the '64 Mustang the Duetto was the start of a line that lasted for decades.
The car for sale today has never been restored. It has been well maintained and is in very good condition. Finding a market value for this gem is difficult. I found no listing of 1966 Duettos in any major listing of used car values. I took the values of the three other convertibles Alfa make in 1966 from National Automobile Dealers Association data. The closest comparable comes in at $140,000.00.
The odometer reads 6853. Half of that is the miles I put on since 1976. The oil was changed in March. At about that time the spark plugs were changed along with their wires and timing adjusted. The tires are very low mileage and the wheels are newly painted.
The car is mostly original but not completely. It has new front brakes. Early on I put in a radio/cassette player (very 1970s). The convertible top is new. The car came with a hard top that fastens using the convertible connections. It still comes with the car. If you live where there is cold weather the hard top can be very useful. The carpeting is old but not original. I've been told the seats are not original. They are seats that were in the car when I bought it so I don't know. The car has lost some minor pieces of chrome and the headlight covers.
