1966 Volvo 1800 Additional Info:
Details
This restored 1966 Volvo 1800S has been refinished in its correct light blue color with re-chromed trim. Power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with twin horizontally mounted carburetors producing 115 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive and short-throw shifter. This 1800S came standard with front disc brakes, independent suspension, leather seats and three-point safety belts. The vehicle is originally a southern California car that was acquired 23 years ago from the son of the original owner. This Volvo 1800S is currently located in Waco, TX.
Included in the third-party inspection report are photos of the overall condition which shows well including the restored chrome. Various paint chips on the hood and a dent on the rear of the trunk lid indicate some age to the restoration. The updated interior looks new and includes a new dash with updated gauges, new black leather seat covers, and a modern retro-looking sound system. The owner notes that the engine and twin carburetors have been rebuilt as well as the starter. It has a new exhaust intake and refreshed manifold, and a re-cored radiator. Rebuilt suspension, new brakes and new clutch keep the ride smooth from start to stop while new window-surround molding on the original glass keeps things quiet and dry. Included in the sale are two sets of keys, an additional set of wheels, a car cover and a non-original owners manual.
This car is being marketed by a Pro on behalf of its current owner.
About the model
Volvo introduced the P1800 Italian-influenced Gran Turismo for the 1961 model year and fitted it with a 1.8L inline four cylinder engine. Following early production in England, model production was moved to Sweden in 1963 and the model renamed the Volvo 1800S. This 2x2, with a long hood and short rear deck was Volvos first successful sports car.
The P1800 appeared in the 1962 television series The Saint starring Roger Moore and is still often referred to as the saints car. The 1800S was largely similar to its predecessor, maintaining its sporty lines and character. Its 1.8L inline four engine saw periodic improvements which ultimately included fuel injection in 1970 when it became the 1800E.
