Sensibly Restored 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Weekender Edition

1987 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Additional Info:

This very clean 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Weekender Edition that has been sensibly restored with modern upgrades ready to drive. The van is powered by a 50º mounted 2.0 resealed ABA Engine block with a Tiico head. It has a rebuilt 3-speed automatic transmission from Steedle Transmissions in New Jersey in October of 2022, complemented by a Go-Westy Transmission External Cooler. It had a full glass-out respray from Waynesboro Auto Sales in metallic gray with rhino lining base which follows the lower body line and continues into the undercarriage. This van was built to drive but I am deciding to pass it on to its next owner.

As stated before is a rebuilt 2.0 ABA engine block paired with a Tiico engine head, running on complete OBD2 ABA fuel management, and equipped with a ScanGauge 2 nestled in the cluster for monitoring. The entire engine underwent a comprehensive resealing, accompanied by a new water pump, engine diesel oil pan, serpentine belt upgrade and mount bars, intake manifold and a 304 stainless exhaust. The radiator lines were upgraded to stainless steel from Bus Depot and a new radiator and radiator fan switch was installed. All of these upgrades have less than 2,000 miles on them. The power steering pulley is not hooked up, but it hasn’t bothered me since I started driving it.

A full rebuild of the stock 3-speed automatic transmission from Steedle Transmissions in NJ in October 2022. The transmission is equipped with a Go-Westy Transmission External Cooler. The list continues with recent replacements including the accelerator cable, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, sending unit and lines.

A set of modern external upgrades featuring, brand new 14" Grabber A/T Tires 27x8.5 R14, window wind and rain deflectors, a set of roof crossbars with a Maxi Trac 2 pole awning, GoWesty headlight upgrade kit, and GoWesty Exterior LED Bulb Kit. The steering system received upgrades as well, with new inner and outer tie rods, and poly steering rack bushings, ball joints and a T3 HD Sway Bar for stability and handling. The braking system features new front brake lines and a fresh brake master cylinder.

The interior has modern upgrades as well. In front of the driver we upgraded the Instrument Cluster with the GoWesty Circuit Foil Replacement Kit, a BOSS Apple Carplay and Android Auto stereo with brand new rear speakers, USB interface for your stereo to connect to your phone, and a USB voltmeter for battery monitoring.
