Odometer reads 140k
4 speed manual transmission - it will pop out of reverse if under load - does NOT do it all the time. You can hold it in place and it reverses fine.
Diesel Non-Turbo 1.6 Diesel engine
Starts right up and runs / drives. Was last registered 2006 here in Nebraska but i was told it was used on the farm ( which is why its so filthy ) It fires right up and goes down the road. It had some enormous tires on it when I bought it and i installed these awesome Ronal R8 ( 14 inch ) which makes it look alot better. All the center caps are missing i think i could not find them..
The Truck is ac equipped - i have not tested or tried it.
The emergency brake does NOT work - brakes work fine but the e brake handle will not pull up.
I have not taken this truck on the highway or driven it any kind of distance yet - i bought it thinking i would rock it this summer while i work on my other truck. I ended up finding another Vw i want to buy so i am tossing this up for auction.
In the glove box was the original VW invoice back in 1981 from purchasing this truck in Topek, Kansas. There is also a receipt for rust guard installed along with original owners manual.
This truck does not appear to have any visible rust / rot / holes. When i had it on the hoist installing the rims / tires. I poked around under it and it is so clean and not rusty. Dont see too many like this anymore in this kind of condition body / rust wise.
The passenger side front fender and rear quarter / bed side has a few dents / scuffs - looks like the passenger side door had been replaced as the pin stripes do NOT match or are missing - the paint match is exact - only anal VW owner like myself notices that the door is not the same.
Truck has rear slider window that i have not tried to open as i dont want to break it. The headliner board is there but the headliner material is missing / removed.
The driver seat bottom is pretty tore up - i have a shop full of other seats - even a decent set of dark blue cloth seats from another Caddy i parted out recently.
This light blue dash is near PERFECT condition - same with the door cards - The carpet is dirty - i do not have a vacuum at my shop - whole truck could use a major bath / detail.
The windshield has a crack / chip on driver side. Tailgate opens and shuts like it should. The truck had a topper on it when i got it - i removed it and sold i, hate toppers on these small trucks - there is some small residue on the top of the bed sides from the gasket for the topper i have not removed completely yet.
Rear bumper is prettty tweeked - its an aftermarket thin bumper that looks like was used to pull something and it got twisted up.
I just got typed as i was thinking above.. i wish all ebay ads were as detailed as mine - most say " runs and drives " then that is all you get.
I have not tried the factory am fm tape player either - dont know if it works or if there are speakers in the dash.
the diesel motor runs awesome has plenty of power for what they are suppose to have.
I have a VW enthusiast shop - i have 5 VW trucks - this is the only one that runs currently. I have so many parts / pieces and general Mk1 Truck knowledge.
SOLD AS IS WHERE IS - I would recommend towing it a long distance - i just have not had time to go take it out on the highway to see how it does yet. Its probably fine but its 35 year old truck that has not been legally registered in 10 years...
