1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Additional Info:
You're looking at my slammed 1968 Ghia. I have spent a lot of time and money on her over the past year. She runs great and drives well! Even as low as she is, the ride is comfortable! Under normal driving conditions she doesn't scrape her pans, unless you go over a speed bump or a major imperfection in the road. The ride is static, with shocks in the rear. I am able to load her on my trailer without issue by placing 2"X 10" boards in front of the ramps to raise the front end to clear the bumpers upon approach. A shipping company shouldn't have any issue picking her up. Tracks straight. Custom narrowed front beam, new brakes, 5 lug conversion, new replica Fuchs rims, new tires.
Interior has fresh recovered front and rear seats, newer door panels, and most of the original carpet is still in place and in good shape! New dash pad (not a cheap plastic cover) was also installed. Gauges cleaned out. The dash face and glove box area has old factory glue residue (that's not rust) from when the previous owner peeled the vinyl off. I chose to leave it as it adds to the patina feel of the car, but should clean off easily if desired or you could recover. Vintage Scat shifter included, an Empi shifter is currently mounted. Turn signals work. Lights (headlights, running lights, turn signals) and horn works by a dash mounted button. Vintage Cibie fog lights installed and hooked up to main lighting circuit. Wipers work. Original radio is in-op. All glass is nice. Rear quarter windows pop open and lock.
The paint is OG, meaning original, and has ridiculously cool patina! Paint shines pretty well for being 50 years old! The lower rear quarters were touched up with a little different green but everywhere else appears to be OG.
The 1600 single port engine is original to the car and has been rebuilt relatively recently. It's clean and doesn't leak that I've noticed. Doesn't smoke. I have added some new parts over the last year, including Pertronix ignition. It runs very well. The 4 speed tranny shifts well. Just put in a new sending unit in the gas tank, but it reads full all the time. Guessing a grounding issue. Haven't had time to chase down.
The person that buys this car should not be looking for a perfect car nor one to restore. It's a patina car with major character! You should leave as is and enjoy all the thumbs ups you get from everyone that sees it. It's a huge hit at every car show! A lot of time and money has been spent to get it like this. The stance is super low and very cool with almost no negative camber at the rear, hence you won't be eating up rear tires running on the inside edge! There is some minor rust in various places as the car hasn't been "restored" but mechanically it's fresh and reliable. Overall the car is very solid considering it's age. I would not hesitate to get in her and drive cross country! Heat works. Obviously no AC. Get in, turn the key, and go. The starter recently started acting up so I'm including a new one in this sale (for you to install at a later date). It only acts up when the car is hot, but doesn't do it all the time. Battery is newer. The car is a blast to drive and super cool! Get ready to get a lot of attention wherever you go!
In several pics a roof rack can be seen. It is NOT included in the auction, but can be purchased by the winning bidder for an additional $500. It's an original factory roof rack and very hard to find, and in really good unrestored condition. I purchased separately from CT and drove 15 hours each way to get it!
Please ask any questions prior to bidding and have permission from your significant other. Have funds readily available as well. I am a private collector/restorer and am selling off a few of my cars to fund the restoration of my 1970 Porsche 911E. I require a $500 PayPal deposit immediately following the auction and remaining balance is to be bank wired within 3 business days, no exceptions. Zero feedback bidders please contact me so we can speak prior to bidding or your bid will be cancelled and you will be blocked. I've had way to many dreamers bid and never follow thru in the past with other auctions. This not only costs me time and money, but ruins the opportunity for a legitimate bidder to win and enjoy the car. Please respect my requirements, as this is not a game. Whoever wins this Ghia will dig it! And air cooled cars are increasing in rarity and values, making this not only a fun toy but a solid investment! Thanks and happy bidding! I'm starting the bidding at a low price of only $5,000! Build cost far exceeds this! I will entertain ending the listing early for the right price. Good luck!
