For sale is a very rare 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 (bus) Westfalia "Stockholm" SO 69/3. This model of bus, known as a "Stockholm" was only produced for 1969 and 1970 model years. It has the square straight-rise pop top that was more common to earlier split window buses. We believe that approximately 90 of ”Stockholms” were shipped to the US and Mexico in 1969 and 1970. The key lock in the ignition is in Spanish.
There have been 2 previous owners, the first of which had this bus for nearly 45 years. The original owner claims the 57,000 miles are original mileages and that could very well be true. The interior is good condition. The original pop-top canvas did not withstand the test of time, and has been redone. Curtains are original and in great shape, and so is the child's cot (a factory option). The original vinyl covered wedge pillow is still aboard. The vinyl cushions have some cracking and the front drives seat shows some flaking, and a tear behind the seat out of view, The dash board has some vertical weather cracks.
The bus originally came equipped with a gas heater- that’s the access door on the diver side rear. The heater is not there but the ducting is.
These busses were originally built on an "ambulance" chassis, and as such has additional underbody support and skid plating, as well as a metal bulkhead behind the driver's bench.
She is propelled by a dual port 1700 engine. The engine leaks a little bit from the seal on the oil pressure sender. It also weeps from the oil cooler. We have had it inspected and these are the only faults found.
The interior seems to be original but as we prepare this bus for sale I’m not quite sure that closets and kitchenette are but it’s and in good to descent condition, The bus is presently equipped with a kitchenette that has a propane stove, electric pump faucet and sink plus an Electro lux refrigerator, but they are not hooked up. We have the original propane bottle for the kitchenette. We have another working kitchenette with a little different set up that we are including.
Other details include the original VW roof rack which has been recently powder coated to match the paint, and a rare folding side step under the sliding door. There is also a foot rest on the passenger side.
There is a little rust but very little. It's had some very minor repairs to the body, and it's not show perfect, but there is no rot, on the body or chassis. This bus is seriously solid, as you can clearly see in the pictures.
The color is a repaint in the original color to match all the jambs and interior metal. Everything works.
This bus is not a restoration or refurbishment: it is pretty much original and you can drive it home
We bought this bus to use it as a marketing car for our company but we realized it was the wrong bus to relegate to marketing duties. We need a deluxe (TRADE?)
