1973 Volkswagen Thing TYPE 181 CONVERTIBLE Additional Info:

This is SOLID RUST FREE totally and freshly restored 1973 VW THING with a clear Wyoming title in my name with 48,429 miles. I believe this mileage on the odometer to be the actual mileage.Included with this car tothe buyer are the original owners manual, nd complete VW THING Shop Manual plus a VW THING parts listing manual. In addition I will include to the buyer original VW sales brochures all in mint condition. When I purchased this 1973 VW Thing it had been parked outsidenearly all of the time since 1973 and the top, seats and paint were weathered. The car ran fineand I could see that this VW THING had great potential as an unmolested original restoration project. I spent about three years restoring this car. This VW had just over 48,000 original miles onthe odometer when I began the complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. I have personally known all four prior owners as this VW has been a local carnear my own neighborhood in Wyoming since day one.It has always been adult owned. This car has about 50 miles onthe odometersince thetotal rebuild of the original 1600cc engine. I have spared no expense and took a great deal of time during the restoration. It has the original freshly rebuilt 1600ccengine and the original oil bath air cleaning system. This VW THING runs, ooks and sounds like new. The 1600cc engine was totally rebuilt by Big Sky VW including new points, ew spark plugs, ew spark plug wires, ew condenser, ew distributor cap, ew rotor, new pistons and rings, ew cylinder jugs, ew main bearings, ew rod bearings, ew cam bearings new valves, ew valve springs, ew valve guides, ew speedometer instrument lights, ew clutch, resh resurfaced flywheel, ew throw out bearing, ew BOSCH starter, ew completeexhaust, ew EMPI carburetor (still have the original rebuilt VW PICT 34 carburetor which will be included to the buyer), he intake and exhaust pipes were painted with aluminum color 1200 degree heat resistant paint, nbsp;new throttle cable, ew BOSCH generator, ew BOSCH coil, ngine shields and all engine related metals were hot tanked and re-painted with Rustoleum semi gloss black, ew oil cooler, ew locking gas cap (original gas cap will be included), ew BOSCH VW horn, ew "THE THING" decals on both sides of the car...new....new... new... I wanted this VW to look FRESH...fresh exterior and interior paint job by MAICO (approx $5,000.00) in the original and proper OEM color coded PUMPKIN ORANGE, ew OEM front seat coconut fiberpadding, ew vinyl seat upholstery on both front seats, ew vinyl upholstery on the rear seats, he original seat belts (both front and rear) are complete and fully operational, ew "pinpoint" vinyl top withnew matching "pinpoint"vinyl windows with two new vinylfleecelined storage bagsPLUS a new top boot cover with a storage bag ($270.00 alone)...the original OEM top frame covers will also be included to the buyer....I even sanded and painted the removable window frames, ew trans-axles, ew high speed transmission with fresh fluid (which was $1,000.00in cost alone). I still have the original stock transmission which will be included to any buyer there is nothing wrong with the original transmission, ew brake shoes all the way around, resh front wheel alignment to proper OEM specifications, he bumpers were sandblasted, rimed and re-painted with four coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss black and they look great, the tire rims werehot tanked and also primed and paintedwith several coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss black...theylook greatalso, ew top, ew pinpoint vinyl windows, ew stock interior, disassembled the seats and had them hot tanked and painted the seat springs in the seats and seat frames also...hot tanked, ainted greased and lubricated the seat rails and the seats move forward and back like new...new tires (including spare)...the white walls are removable inserts if you do not like the white walls simply take them off, ew stock (NOS) German wiper blades, ew windshield and new windshield rubber gasket, iper motor taken apart and cleaned and lubricated, ew stock floor mats, ew stock hub caps, he head lights (both hi and low beams), orn, rake lights, nd turn signals are all functional. The radio is a Sapphire VW AM-FM radio the original VW radio was AM only it still works and will be included to the buyer. The AM-FM fits perfectly in the original radio bezel and also installed a new speaker (same original size and output) in the original speaker console to keep things looking stock. I did install a rat rod stop light on the rear bumper that works when the brakes are applied. The newfog lights are not hooked up they are for ornamental purpose, lthough they could be hooked up to a switch and powered easily...I do not drive this "THING" in the rain or any bad weather it is strictly a fair weather car for me...A CLASSIC!!!...I have a ton of money (and time) invested in this VW and I have all of the receipts to prove my investment in this fresh restoration. The Top Header is original and solid it was removed, hot tanked, anded primed and painted as well as all top bows before the new top was installed. The floors are SOLID even the area where the battery is located is ROCK SOLID without any sign of deterioration...I paid strict attention to keeping this VW STOCK in most every way. Just about every part purchased for this restoration was purchased through THE THING SHOP in Arizona. They were a fantastic source for OEM parts, uidance and information....many thanks to their employees and especially Ivan and Roger. The items that are not stock can be easily removed... like the gear shift knob (have the original), hite wall inserts, he rat rod stop light on the rear bumper and the fog lights. TheEberspacher BN4 gas heaterdoes not workat present...it is complete and original but does not work...I am sure it is just a matter of trouble shooting the heater I have not looked at it nor tried to fix it.This VW originated in Wyoming and is currently registered and plated with Wyoming license plates but I am currently living in California andhad this "THING" shipped enclosed to southern California. This 1973 VW THING is currently located in Temecula, A and can be inspected upon appointment. This VW THING is exempt from any California emission standards due to it's age.
