1982 Subaru GLF "Rally Tribute" Additional Info:
Brought to sale is an amazing vehicle for the Subaru Enthusiast or Collector. A 1982 Subaru GLF or what was known as the Leone in other markets. This GLF has been owned by the current owner for 4 + years, and brought to its present condition and presentation by him. This is NOT a Rally racing car, it is a tribute to a 1984 Rally New Zealand Car (RX Model) driven by the famous Peter "Possum" Bourne. The original Rally Car is in existence in New Zealand. The livery has been carefully thought out, with the correct color and sponsor placement, as well as local business to the cars location. This car has been shown in the local Subaru as well as Import community and won many awards for its presentation. The vehicle has all original equipment, an EA81 engine coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission. It is all original interior with only a slight tearing in the drivers seat bolster that can easily be repaired by a vinyl repair shop or by the new owner. Otherwise only a slight discoloration of floor carpets which can be expected for a vehicle of its age. The vehicle has not undergone a full restoration, and has the expected rust areas due to this. Slight rust around all wheel wells, along the rockers underneath the vehicle, and around the rim of the trunk opening and the sunroof rim. The sunroof was seal shut (easily reversible) due to this. There is a small 8" crack in the left front windshield from a rock, additional windshield will be provided with the vehicle. The car rides on steel "wagon" wheels which have been painted a flat white with one spoke red. It has 7" PIAA lights (2 sets) which are fully operational, and has had recent brake work, all of which are fully operational. The previous owner installed an aftermarket cruise control which is magnet driven via axle, those magnets are not on the axle presently, so the CC does not operate, new magnets would allow for full operation. The vehicle gets a consistent 23-26 MPG, and the carburetor is tuned for regular unleaded gasoline.
This is an extremely fun vehicle to drive, with the full roll-down front and rear windows opening up the passenger area of the vehicle, it is wonderful cruising at all speeds, and easily will do 65-75 MPH on the freeways. The fluids have all been maintained on a regular basis, and regular maintaining of the spark plugs and other serviceable parts on the vehicle. There are some things that are needed for the vehicle in the future, small rust repair, water sealing (wet weather the rear floor boards become damp) new radiator and/or thermostat (vehicle gets hot after 2+hrs of driving at a sitting position, but does not overheat) This vehicle would also benefit from the addition of a Weber carburetor for additional power and enjoyment, but not necessary.
It is with a heavy heart that this vehicle sale is necessary. It has been a wonderful car to own and enjoy, yet recent legal bills and possible relocation force sale of the vehicle. It would be nice to see it go to someone that would like to restore or tinker with the things that the car needs. The vehicle is in condition that will win many awards as-is, yet would be amazing with some of the things that I have been meaning to get to.
Again, this is a TRIBUTE to a great Rally Racing car from Rally New Zealand 1984, driven by Peter "Possum" Bourne, Please Google to learn more about his racing history and to see examples used for the livery of this car, I hand cut each piece of vinyl for the main colors, and the additional logos and stickers were either made professionally or provided by the business they represent. You can take off or leave on, your choice once the car is yours.
