On the outside this just looks like a beautifully built 1965 Shelby Cobra, but then everyone else on the track starts wondering why you can smoke them all. That's because this is a Backdraft Racing Cobra. That means a 427 V8 pumping out 560 hp, a fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, beefy 5-speed gearbox, and a whole host of other goodies to make this one of the baddest Cobra you've ever laid eyes on.The paint instantly makes this one a shining star. The Sterling Gray metallic with gray painted stripes is a modern hue interpretation of an iconic application, and underneath the skin you'll see the same kind of spirit, too (but more on that in a moment). If you know the Backdraft cars, you know that their workmanship is one of, if not the highest regarded in the Cobra industry, and the fit and finish on this particular car is worthy of all the extra scrutiny it's likely to get at shows. It's set up as an SC, so it has the flares, the jacking stubs instead of bumpers, chrome roll hoops, and all the other fixtures that define the Cobra today. And since this one was built to drive, there's even polished heat shields on the side pipes that might save your pants next time (CALIFORNIA DRIVERS: the car has been titled in CA so those iconic side pipes will not be a problem.) And perfectly complementing those shiny side pipes are a set are iconic ten-spoke Halibrand-style knock-off wheels.Curvy bucket seats look right, and more importantly, hold you in place during aggressive driving. They did a lot of work in this Backdraft Racing replica to give it that authentic feel, ranging from the wood-rimmed AC logo steering wheel, to the interior-mounted fire extinguisher, to the forward-canted shifter for the five-speed manual transmission. Racing-style shoulder harnesses are available for both driver and passenger, but this is also a civilized car, so it has carpets, a padded dash, and Plexiglas sun visors & wind wings. Big VDO analog gauges fill the instrument panel with information, and that's good because there's a lot going on under the hood.Sure, the engine bay has that perfect shiny appearance that goes so well with the exterior colors, and will certainly attract crowds... but this is a Cobra, and it's primary mission is to be the fastest sports car around. That's why beneath the flash is the substance of a Smeding Performance 427 V8. It starts with a Dart Machinery block built with a forged lightweight pistons, moly rings, balanced crankshaft, steel H-rods, and roller cam. It inhales deeply through a Quick Fuel 750 double-pumper four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake. There's plenty more performance components, but we just don't have all the room (give us a call for all the details.) For now just know that those header-fed side pipes do a great job of announcing this roadster's massive 560hp/560 lb-ft of torque. All this power is only at its best when you have the right components to control it. That's why you get a stout Tremec TKO600 five-speed feeding the BMW rear differential. On the road or racetrack, you'll instantly feel the confidence the fully independent suspension gives you. In front it's a cast lower wishbone with a McPherson-style coil over strut and adjustable stabilizer bar, and the rear has an adjustable multilink rear setup supplied by BMW. Plus, the modern grip of the Nitto Extreme ZR tires is backed up at each wheel with disc brakes supplied by ATE.Built in 2006 and less than 5,000 miles put on it since, you know what it would cost to have this done today. And this one is barely broken in! So we'd tell you to call us for all the details, but at this price, you might also want to ask if it's still here!
