The RUF organization has been in business since the 1939 as "Auto Ruf:" when Alois Ruf senior opened his automotive service facility in Pfaffenhausen Germany.
"Alois Sr.'s involvement in the car industry had a distinct effect on his son, Alois Ruf Jr., who became a sports car enthusiast. In 1960, Alois Jr. began servicing and restoring Porsche automobiles out of his father's garage. Following Alois Sr's. death in 1974, 24-year-old Alois Jr. took control of the business and focused on his passion: Porsche vehicles, and especially the 911. A year later in 1975, the first Ruf-enhanced Porsche came to life.
Ruf debuted their first complete model in 1977, a tuned version of Porsche's930with a stroked 3.3 litre motor. This was followed in 1978 by Ruf's first complete non-turbo Porsche, the 911 SCR. It was a naturally aspirated911with a stroked 3.2 litre motor producing 217 horsepower. Numerous customer orders were placed for this vehicle." - Wikipedia
This 1980 911SCR Targa was produced in late 1979 and originally sold in Cologne Germany.
The car was taken to "RUF" by its original owner where it received its 911SCR upgrade. I was able to contact the original owner who still resides in Cologne and who
verified that the car was once his and that Ruf had indeed performed the modifications. According to an email from the cars original owner, this was one of the
first 911SCR's modified by Ruf. He also stated that he is still in contact with Alois Ruf jr. and attached a photo with him, his father and this car.
This extremely rare Ruf Targa is finished in its original Grand Prix White with black leather interior. The car has never been damaged and still retains its original
paint with very few and only minor flaws after 43 years. The car is equipped with Ruf's 3.2 liter stroker engin, Ruf 17" Alloy wheels (Brand new Continental
Extreme contact tires, less than 6 months old and less than 100 miles on them) Ruf steering wheel, Ruf front facia, Ruf floor mats and Ruf dual exhaust.
Again, the car has never been damaged or had any paint work.
The cars interior is original sans the radio and speakers and is in exceptional original condition showing only slight wear on the drivers upper seat bolster (see photo)
Mechanically the car starts, runs, drives, shifts and stops perfectly. There is no smoke on initial start warm or cold. There are no leaks, the engine shows
only slightly damp area's, again, with no physical leaks. My personal car is a European 1980 911SC coupe. This car will run away from mine as if I were tied to a tree !
Clutch take up is both chatter and slip free. Transmission shifts perfectly, brake modulation and feel is Porsche perfect.
At 66,000miles the cars transmission was rebuilt and its clutch replaced by Roger Jobs Porsche is Bellingham Wa. (receipts)
This may be an absolute once in a life time opportunity to acquire a truly rare piece of both Porsche and Ruf automotive history. The name RUF is absolutely synonymous
with Porsche and has been for years. Ruf has built and continues to build some of the worlds absolute finest automobiles, period. I started working for Porsche in Newport Beac, Ca
in 1978, yes, that dates me. It also makes me very familiar with the marque. I have spoken to many well known and respected "Porsche guys" (names you would know) about this car when establishing a value. ...
there is no comparable car on the market or perhaps anywhere for that matter.
