This car is one of the first 40 "Protoype cars" built in August 1975 when the Factory is officially closed for the Summer, and is one of a handful of non sunroof cars.
The car was imported into the US in the late seventies and has been Family owned by John and his brother Jeffrey Skibik, mechanic for Bob Bailey of B&B Racemark fame since 1989.He was a well known engine builder and mechanic, working with Paul Newman, before setting up his own shop, Jeff's Foreign Service in Massachusetts. The car has been lovingly restored during it's tenure with the Skibik brothers, and the following was done in the past few years.
A glass out, jams out full repaint on an accident and rust free chassis in it's original 106 Talbot Yellow, all new rubber seals throughout.
The interior was freshened up with a new black headliner, new RS door panels, all the leather, including the Factory Sport seats, was re-Conellized.
The engine, based on a correct but non matching type 930 Turbo case, was totally rebuilt with the following design parameters calling for a smooth street able power unit with seamless power, conservatively rated at around 285BHP:
Machined twin plug heads with matched and balanced ports, freshly honed Nicosil barrels,JR 10.5 to 1 Pistons,Dougherty billet mild racing/street DH60 cams,Stainless steel heat exchangersStainless steel exhaustall new carburation from Richard at PMO, he was personally involved in the build, Jeff Skibick was instrumental in the design and the set up the various PMO carburetors for the entire Porsche 911 Series.Crank fired Electromotive twin plug timing and engine management systems from Clevett Engineering, and Richard Clevett was also involved in the build.
The Limited slip gearbox was stripped, inspected and repacked with 1st and 2nd gear synchros replaced.
Engine/Gearbox have only 400 miles since completion. You would expect to pay around $ 45k for an engine build of this complexity and specification. There are maybe 2 or 3 shops in the US that could even come close to to this quality of workmanship.
The car has cross drilled rotors, new soft lines, the suspension rubbers were replaced, and the suspension was lowered 4 mm all around.
The car is a delight to drive, it is fast, yet quiet and smooth. If you have never driven a balanced and blue printed engine, then it is hard to describe the experience, add to that a silky smooth clutch with light feel, and it is Nirvana. The brakes pull up firmly and smoothly, the steering is crisp and sharp, the short throw shifter is a delight, and probably the best I have encountered. The car is perfectly balanced and poised and performs flawlessly,as you would expect from it's provenance and heritage.Final touches were refinishing the wheels and a new set of wheel nuts. These European 3.0 liter Carreras, never imported into the US, have a character all their own, and will out perform any of their contemporary US counterparts. This car is listed in the Carrera 3.0 liter Registry and is the earliest lowest production numberrecorded car.
Sales of these rare cars are now regularly reaching six figures:This vehicle is titled in the P.O.'s name and located in NV.It is currently insured with Hagerty for $ 125.000-The private plate does not form part of this sale, and is not included.
