It with some reluctance that we have decided to sell my son’s 1978 Trans Am WS6. This car has been a labor of love and a wonderful father son project. We have spent countless hours working on this beautiful muscle car and have spared no expense on its restoration. The car came to us as a clean, rust free, garage kept car with low original miles. As of today the odometer reads 60,653 miles. Of course the odometer does not register anything over 100,000 miles, but we have good reason to believe the mileage is correct due to the fact that the original suspension parts were in excellent condition. The rest of the car also supports this mileage as well.
The list of upgrades is extensive and all of the modifications were done with the intention of making a tasteful and reliable muscle car. The 17”x 9” snowflake rims are a nod to the original 15” wheels and the 275/40-R17 inch tires are low and wide with just the right grip. The stance is pure muscle car! The car is a pure joy to drive, and it will make you take the long road home. In town the low (tasteful) rumble and Maserati red paint get you enough thumbs up and hollers of “nice car” to make any Sunday cruise enjoyable.
The Trans Am has definite power without being obnoxious. At some point you have to make a decision when building an engine. If you build too much engine than the car is inadequate and just down right dangerous. We made careful consideration when assembling the engine. We wanted reliable horsepower without going overboard. Our estimate is somewhere in the 350HP range; more than enough to put a smile on your face! See the videos below.
We’ve also taken a lot of time & labor to make the undercarriage as nice as the rest of the car. I also want to mention that the original build sheet comes with the Trans Am, as well as the showroom front screaming chicken plate (see photos). The only negative aspect that we know of is a crack in the lower left windshield that we inadvertently caused.
I apologize if this description is a bit wordy. After six years and countless hours you begin to love a car. It makes it hard not to go on and on about what you have done with it. From local car shows to ½ price shakes at Sonic Drive In, this car has been loved. Most importantly, it has given my son and I something cool to do together. In fact we’ve decided to do it again; this time on a ’92 ZR-1 Corvette. That’s why this car is up for sale.
Most of the build info is listed below. Please feel free to ask any questions. Any bidder would be lucky to own this car. You can be assured that our reasonable reserve price wouldn’t even cover the material costs of building this car, add to that the love and care with a sharp attention to detail and you have a truly unique muscle car that is one heck of a deal.
The car has been beautifully restored & has the following features:
The original engine was rebuilt for increased performance (less than 2000 miles ago) using the following components:
