I have had several people ask if this is the Y88 Special Edition. It is hard to see but it does look like it has theY88 right underneath where it says performance package.

This car is not a Y88. What I was looking at is YJ8 which is the gold 15x8 WS6 wheels. The build sheet shows this to be a Y84 Trans Am with a L78 engine and M21 4 speed transmission. I pulled up production numbers on the car and it says there was 68 automatics produced with the L78 and 0 4 speed cars produced with the L78 in 1978. The build sheet vin matches the car vin and the build sheet clearly shows the L78 and M21 4 speed. Bottom of build sheet says XXX customer order. This might have been a special order car. With all that being said I looked for the vin # on the block and there is none. The stamping under the head is WC which would lead me to believe that this is a 1978 Pontiac 400 manual shift factory warranty block. I could be wrong I am definately new at Pontiacs and still tyring to figure them out. If anyone knows different or wants to correct me let me know and I'll post the info. Bob

I stand corrected by an expert. He said this is a W72 car and the engine code is correct to the car. I am going to quit trying to figure it out and let you Pontiac guys sort it out. I am still looking for the vin # on the block. I stuck a camera up where it is supposed to be. When My wife gets home I will look at the photos and post the findings. Also he said there was aroud 4,000 of these produced.

I finally found the VIN # on the engine. It is the original engine. Vin# on the car is 2W87Z8L1984. Vin # on block is 28L181984.
