UPDATE 2/28/26 my mechanic will be replacing the alternator as he said it was the cause of the parasitic draw on the electrical system as well as replacing the speedometer gears!)
Thank you for looking at my 1981 Ford F-250 Custom! I have owned this truck since 2023 and hate to part with it but life changes and with it so do priorities. My priority is a happy wife and kiddo and thus here we are! It was purchased by a broker in 2022 and then I purchased it from that broker in 2023. It has no accidents on its record! It has very minimal rust for a 7th generation ford but I have made it a point to showcase all of its rusty spots in the photos for your review. I feel it’s important to emphasize that I purchased new front left and right fenders, hood and a cab corner patch panel as part of my restoration plans and will provide them to the winner of this auction at no additional cost! These panels cost me almost $ 1,000.00 from LMC truck 2 years ago and are still in the box. Upon the end of this auction I will strap them into the bed and they will be shipped with the truck with the shipper you choose to use. The truck does does need some attention and has issues you might expect from a 45 year old rig. It does leak oil (I believe from the rear main seal), and power steering fluid and could use a front disc brake job as I have not had a chance to get to getting that done and I’m not sure if they were done before my time with the truck. The speedometer does read speed just not the accurate speed. I have all of the varieties of speedo gears and will provide them with the truck. The truck is equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission with a low 1st (granny) gear, 1st gear and reverse grind a bit when you shift into them but on these older gear boxes its more customary to start off in second gear unless your starting off on a hill as 1st gear will only get you about 5 to 10 mph tops. Whenever I need 1st gear I’ll usually tap it into second gear first to help mesh the synchros in the transmission and then press It into first without issue. We old truck guys get the logic here but old jeep guys love these low gear transmissions for rock crawling by the same principle. The four-wheel drive works in high and I believe it works in low gear as well though I haven’t ever found myself in a situation where I needed to test it out.I recently upgraded the fuel delivery system from carburetion to a Fittech throttle body fuel injection system. This really helps turn these old rigs into more efficient machines. To my memory this system cost about $800.00. it really helps with cold starts and removes the need for rejetting the carburetor for elevation changes, etc. as part of this process I also installed a new 16 gallon fuel tank and sending unit as well as a fittech mini surge tank secondary fuel pump ($415.00). The truck currently has a parasitic draw on the electrical system but I have it at my mechanic for the day today and he is working on fixing it. If he cannot you may need to. The Fittech system is an adaptive learning system that changes and adjusts based on driving habits, environmental factors, etc and if it loses power the learning process effectively starts over. When the process starts over it may smell like its running rich for a day or so until it gains enough data to adjust the IAC settings. The heater control cable is rusted and does not work. It could use a front end disc brake replacement. It’s starting to show some brake dust on the front driver side wheel. I have had the rear drum brakes replaced during my time with the truck. These are all of the known issues i can think of off hand though I have not driven this truck regularly for awhile.
If you have any questions about this truck I hope you reach out to me! I am an open book and I want you to love this truck as much as I have. I have bought and driven a lot of old trucks and appreciate honesty as much as im sure you do.
This truck is being sold as-is, where-is and without express or implied warranty.
Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. I highly recommend Henry with HJM Shipping though.
