A little history. Starting in 1969, co-founder of Kelmark, Randy Markham, sold tubular mid-engine V8 frames for VW based kit cars. In 1975, he designed the popular and timeless Kelmark GT car body that fits both a stock VW Beetle chassis and the Kelmark tubular V8 frames. In 1977, through a joint venture with Mid-Engineering, the factory-built King Kong Kelmark was track tested to 203 MPH by Don Sherman of Car & Driver Magazine. The Markham family owns all rights to both Kelmark and Mid-Engineering companies, including their marketing, photo and logo copyrights, original fiberglass body molds and all inventory. In that inventory are some excess pieces which we are offering for sale here.
This listing is for an assembled, rolling Mid-Engineering, Kelmark chassis. Other than the rear suspension, this chassis is identical to the King Kong Kelmark of Car & Driver fame.
On that chassis, the Karman Ghia front disc brakes were the same but the Corvair rear drum brakes had been replaced with C3 Corvette disc brakes. Included with this chassis is a set of those same C3 rear disc brakes, enabling the buyer to swap out the Corvair drums if he so desires. The engine compartment is set up for a Toronado/Eldorado transaxle with a big block engine. Buyer can easily adapt this chassis to a different drivetrain of their choice as well. The body mounting surface and the wheelbase fit most VW based kits as well as any Kelmark GT body. A capable builder could re-power his kit car with this proven mid-engine or rear-engine rolling chassis. Please see pictures for more detail.
