I am selling my 1967 Mercury Comet Voyager Station Wagon, better known throughout the drag racing community as “The Collector.” This is not just another vintage race car—it is a documented NHRA Super Stock competitor with an incredible history dating back to the golden era of factory muscle.

Originally campaigned by Sandy Elliott out of Chatham Ontario, Canada, and driven by legendary Canadian drag racer Barrie Poole, this famous wagon raced under the well-known “Border Bandits” banner during the late 1960s.

One of the car’s most memorable achievements came at the 1967 NHRA Spring Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee, where The Collector finished Runner-Up to the legendary Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins. The car also competed at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California, cementing its place in NHRA Super Stock history and many other great races. Barrie Poole enjoyed tremendous success behind the wheel of this unique Mercury, making it one of the most recognized Super Stock wagons of its era.

Engine & Mechanical Highlights

The engine has been rebuilt and upgraded while maintaining the spirit of the original combination:

• 427 FE block

• Previously built with standard-bore pistons in a .020-over block

• Now rebuilt with .030-over flat-top pistons

• 428 FE crankshaft

• 427 Lemans rods

• 4 speed toploader/ Hurst Shifter

• Ram billet aluminum flywheel/clutch

• Full 3” exhaust on it currently to drive around town along with 3.50 gears.
