Hello
We owned this beautiful 380SL for 4 years at this point. My wife wanted an SL on her 40th birthday but she wanted a red or black one but we could not find one in red or black so we settled for this beautiful gray color while still looking for a red or black one. Eventually we found a very low mile black one and made the purchase and even though the car has less than half the miles of this car, it does not drive or handle like this one and many might not believe me when I say this but its true. I think the low mile car set and was not driven and its all got dry underneath while this is more lubricated and serviced more often. This vehicle drives so much better and we have to spend about $5000 on the black one we now have to make it drive like this so we currently have one that looks perfect and one that drives perfect. Pretty funny.
Okay now about the car. The body is pretty straight. It has no dents or real dings. Paint is not perfect. It would be a lie to say it is perfect. Its good for its age. It is obvious that in some places like every Mercedes this age, the clear coat does not have the shine it had when new but this is already a 40 year old vehicle. The chrome is in very good shape and the mirror shows that, so do the bumpers in photos. The tires are brand new, all braking and fuel delivery, getting and ac and electrical is in full working order, in fact the AC is as cold as in any new vehicle. The dash has a crack in the middle which is very common in these cars and there us not a thing anyone can do about the SL dash issues. That's how they all are. Carpets are good and I added the classic floor mats brand new just recently. The vehicle drives very nice, very soft and smooth. This is not a vehicle you will be buying to take to a mechanic, but to drive it. It is not perfect cosmetically as you see. The seat covers show wear of course and in some spots, the carpet has discoloration but it is not bad and totally usable as it's not pilling or anything. It is just not perfect. If you'd ask me if Id take a long trip in the car, the answer would be yes because I am sure it will not let me down. This is the most important. The rest of the cosmetic stuff can be taken care of in the future and every classic car owner knows that and does it with pleasure. It is like a home you buy that's on a lake but needs cosmetic work and that's just normal.I just bough two brand new sunvisors and paid $250 for them. The brake release handle was broken since the day I got the car. I bought a used one and that one broke too. I ordered a brand new one 3 months ago but it's still not here. I am trying to replace it before the car is sold. If not, then I will have to ship the car without it. It's that small round hand brake release knob. The only mechanical problem the car has, from time to time, the car will not start on P so you might have to move the gear a little side to side, meaning jiggle a little to start or put it to neutral. I looked up in forums and this is much more common on these cars than I thought. It's a connector or wire that needs to be fixed which is an easy fix and will cost around $100.
Here is the only thing I will need to bring to your attention. The palomino color rubber door sills came off after detailing the car recently. I removed both sides, cleared the glues on both sides and it is now ready to receive new sills. I will include 2 brand new sills with the car and all you will need to do is install it. If I have the time to do it, I will since I like doing work on the car, but we are in a home renovation currently and have to complete this large project before Christmas so I can't promise. I will do my best to install them. I already have the, but if not, then it will be included with the car.
We currently have 2 SL's and don't need two SL's but need the money to invest in the other SL we bought to make it as good mechanically as this one so we are selling this one. That's the only reason we are selling. We thought about wrapping this car in red but that's like cheating.
I am absolutely sure that the vehicle will not disappoint anyone. After the vehicle is purchased, Ebay will require a $500 none refundable deposit so please be ready to pay that and also it will send you a QR code which you will need to save to later give to me for the release. the full payment will be due within 7 days after the car is purchased. The only payment option is bank wire. I will not agree to escrow or any other type of payment. If payment is not made on time, I reserve the right to cancel the deal, keep the deposit and resist the vehicle. Please have the funds ready to close the deal on time. I also reserve the right to end the listing early If there is a local buyer. Thank you much and have a good day. GOD BLESS!
