For consignment, this Serengeti capable Range Rover County LWB from 1994, which can also be used to roam the upscale suburbs, shuttling children to their private schools, and providing head turning arrivals for their parents at the country club, all in 4-wheel drive glory. Owned by our consignor for the last 3 years and sporting a title verified used but not abuse 91,494 actual miles, now with a 2 month old rebuilt transmission, new power steering pump, new brake lines, and nearly new tires this 4x4 savannah crawler is nearly ready for anything you can throw at it.
Exterior
Camouflaged in all black this large aluminum paneled truck has average minded gaps, 4 doors with high windows that are tinted and a large rear gate. Black 16-inch factory installed thick spoked wheels are all around wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion ATR rubber from 2019, a tow hitch and genine Rover toughness is included for when you may tangle with an unexpected rhinoceros in the bush. High ground clearance for those deep dry riverbeds to climb in and out of. And more black coverings for the front grille and Range Rover badging on the front of the hood.
Interior
Climbing inside this tall truck we see plenty of black leather covering the front buckets in smooth form and some side door panels in burl, suede, and molded plastic form. Also, the front buckets have power controls for adjustment. These front buckets are in good form, holding their paddings and showing just a few creases and color loss from usage. A black and wood appliqué center console has a large storage bin, all the window controls, and sunroof switch. The automatic shift lever is forwarded by an ashtray between it and the 4WD shifter. A large black leather rear bench with a center armrest is present, and just aft of this seat is the carpeted storage compartment accessible with the rear gate. Currently occupying some of this space is a spare tire with its original wheel. All the floors have fairly clean black carpeting, and the headliner is tightly padded gray felt.
Drivetrain
Underneath the bonnet is a nicely patina engine bay with some corrosion and dulled surfaces throughout. It sits in 4.2 Liter V8 format and has Lucas electronic EFI. There is a rebuilt 2 months ago ZF H4P22 4-speed automatic transmission on back that sends power to the front and rear 4.267 geared axles.
Undercarriage
The rockers and flooring appears clean and rust free with factory undercoating along with some road dirt and patina. Some surface rust is seen on suspension parts, but all unremarkable. However, for the frame we note heavy invasive rust on the rear cross member that has progressed into the rear rails. More invasive rust is seed mid frame with holes and heavily expanded rusted steel. Up front rigid axle coil springs make up the suspension and on the rear is a De Dion axle and coil springs. Power disc brakes for all 4 corners and a new stock exhaust complete the undercarriage safari.
Drive-Ability
We started this engine and the truck settled into a calm and soothing idle. Our test track was no match for this go-anywhere capable rig, but with the noted frame issues we decided to forego the off road section of our track. All functions were working as they should during our drive, but we did note a pesky ABS light that would come on from time to time along with an ABS pump that continued to run non-stop after the truck was turned off and the key removed.
Its black on black leather look, 4WD with lots of power, and a good reputation for being able to toughen it out anywhere in the world, all in style, is the niche this big truck fills. Fix the ABS and frame issues, and you are off to hunt the elusive wildebeest side by side with the lion while getting rammed by the rhinoceros...what a smashing adventure!
