1969 Land Rover Series IIA “Bug Eye”
RARE. Fully Galvanized Frame up Restoration. Military spec double belt engine.
This is a RARE example with less than one hundred showing on the US Land Rover Registry.
Beautifully restored 15 years ago by Bill Bradford of Tennessee Rovers. Both the frame and wiring harness were replaced. Instead of starting with the rust compromised original, a correct, galvanized frame was imported from the UK. The wiring was all replaced with new wire and reliable connectors and relays.
This Series IIA has a Military “Spec” 2.25 liter motor. It is a correct double belted crate motor with an 8 blade fan. The transmission is a 4 speed with synchros for 3-4 (double clutch lower gears).
Nicknamed a “Bug Eye” when the headlights moved from the radiator support to the fenders. This has become an Icon for the brand that saw service worldwide.
This LR can be driven anywhere. With a new galvanized frame, motor, wiring, and just 4,500 miles since the rebuild it would be tempting to do just that (in between car shows).
Other Features include:
- Military Spec 2.25 four cylinder gas engine
- New galvanized steel frame
- 4 speed manual transmission (synchro 3-4)
- 88” wheel base
- Custom rubber mats
- 2 rear folding jump seats
- Correct canvas top
