1968 Ford Mustang GT Additional Info:
1968 1/2 428 Cobra Jet "R" Code Mustang Fastback. Mint condition, Original Motor & Complete Numbers matching drivetrain. This is an extremely well documented California Black Plate car now located on the East Coast of Australia (near Sydney). The 1968 1/2 Mustang is one of the most rare and desirable Mustangs ever built. They are the quickest of all (1965-1973) 1st and 2nd generation Mustangs ever built. If you don't know what a 1968 1/2 Mustang is, do your homework on the history. The 1968 Shelby GT500KR (King of the Road) actually adopted this drivetrain at Carol Shelbys request.
This is one of the 1st factory R-code Mustangs built in April 1968. One of only (994) 68 1/2 GT Cobra Jet Fastback Mustangs built. Complete original matching # motor and drivetrain. Factory Ram-Air. Correct date coded carb. Correct Carter X-type fuel pump. Correct starter delay and exhaust manifolds (currently running headers). Extensive 3 year restoration. Car has featured in magazines; Classic Auto Appraiser quoted as saying it is the finest restoration that they had ever seen. This car undertook a painstaking 3 year complete nut & bolt restoration by Pauls Automotive, Ohio, to then be appraised as Concours Gold. I have every receipt for every nut, bolt and washer. The quality of the build has to be seen to be believed. It's as good as it gets. The car has travelled only 3000 miles since the restoration and is still 99.9% flawless. Some of the original restored parts have been carefully stored in a crate and tastefully replaced with modern upgrades to enhance the driving experience. The car can easily be reversed back to factory specification. Nothing has been drilled, welded or modified from the original design. The original C6 was swapped for a five-speed - a Tremec TKO 600 to be specific and a McLeod Clutch with billet flywheel. The car's original 4.30 geared 31-spline 9-inch traction-loc rear end puts the power to the ground. Paul's rebuilt the torque monster 428 (now 433 cubic inches) to near factory specs, deviating only with a mild Comp Cams hydraulic grind, roller rockers, and basic cylinder head massaging. Why mess with a good thing? The suspension, brake, and rolling stock departments are far from stock and are all about performance. Clearly visible are the 17" billet Magnum wheels, hidden beneath at all corners are Baer Track discs, paired with substantial suspension upgrades thanks to the handiwork of Shawn Carlson and Zach Thureson at West Coast. This big-block Pony is a now a corner carver, bolting in Global West tubular upper and lower control arms, adjustable strut rods, Koni shocks, and a big front sway bar. A Total Control Products power steering rack has also been added. With its concours restoration and subtle restomodifications, this flawless 1968 1/2 Cobra Jet may be the ultimate Mustang Fastback. Please feel free to ask any questions as there is just way too much information to list. This vehicle has never been in an accident and has never been driven in the rain.
