1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX with only 46,000 original miles on it.
I purchased this car off an estate over the summer, the original owner was a elderly couple who purchased the car new. The husband passed away in 1989 and then the female passed away in 2015. From what the family told me the car was last driven regularly by the owner up until around 2005 when the owner began have health issues preventing her from driving. The family drove the car a couple times per year and made sure to keep up with the state inspection every year. The car was inspected in 2000 and then parked for the last time until I acquired it. When I purchased the car it only had 5 miles put on it since the inspection in 2009. Long story short the car sat in a garage for the past 7.5 years idle only being started to keep things moving by the family.
When I purchased the car I used a trailer to get it home and wanted to go through it before driving it. The car did sit for several years and I had to do some work to get it back up to par for a daily driver.
Parts replaced:
· Right front caliper (old one was frozen) left front looks like it was replaced very few miles ago also.
· Master cylinder, rubber seals were bad causing leak down when breaking.
· Heater core
· Thermostat
· Oil change (oil was as clean but was in there for almost 8 years)
· Throttle body transmission cable bushing
The car runs great and drives down the road, nice and smooth. All the power options on the car work, the driver side window is slow to go down but it goes up just fine. The valve cover gaskets look to have some minor seepage but the car does not leak any fluids at all and the undercarriage is clean from any evidence of fluid leaks. I have not done anything with the A/C system but assume that a 134a conversion would get the system back into check.
I would rate the interior to be in very good condition and the body to be in good condition. The interior is clean and smells fresh, the car has never been smoked in and no evidence of any pet hair anywhere. The body looks nice and the paint shines very nice, I only washed the car and have not waxed it. Some minor dents are evident but only a couple and the car does have some scratches here and there on the car (typical of a car driven by someone in their 90's). Some scratches that I think will buff out are evident on the passenger doors. Their is some very minimal rust on the body, please look at the photos of the front fenders. The worst spot is on the lower left fender where their is a hole but it is hard to see due to the trim covering over the damaged area.
The car could probably use a tune up (original wires, cap etc. from what I can tell) but she has been running fine for me so I did not bother with it. I have four other Crown Victoria's (1982, 1986, 1991 and 2006) so I really don't have room for this one. I have been using this as a daily drive but with the snow coming I will not subject this car to the NY salt.
Issues: The car should have the rear tires replaced, the rear tires are the original Firestone's and one had the tread start to separate and go flat (in the trunk and no damage to the rim at all). The front tires are Dunlop and look like new. The gas gauge does not work and I have been using the odometer to fill up, usually around 250 miles on the tank and she takes about 12-13 gallons. The exhaust has been patched behind the catalytic converters, she is nice and quiet but when you hit the gas hard you can hear a very slight rumble.
I am selling this car as is where is with no warranty either expressed or implied with no reserve. This is a 30 year old car so please don't expect something that is in showroom condition. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer and I will assist however possible with whomever you contract with to have the car picked up. Payment must be by certified bank check, wire transfer or cash in person. Vehicle must be removed within 14 days of auction end unless other arrangements are made prior to the auction ending. Guess I forgot to mention, if you have less than 10 in feedback then you must contact me via emailprior to bidding on the car. Include a phone number in the email so I can call you and make sure you are a legitimate buyer.
I also forgot to mention that the car does have some minor brake pulsation coming from the rear drums. I think it is the drums because you do not feel it in the pedal like you normally do when it is the rotors. I am going to attempt to make a video of the car going down the road today on my way home from work and will share the link once completed.
