Vin # 5F08D153027 is a 1964 Ford Mustang Convertible assembled on the assembly line in Dearborn Michigan USA. This Mustang was Pulled off the assembly line without an interior. This Mustang was than sent to Ford Design Center and received a custom handcrafted leather interior with prototype appointments and construction, one off special exterior paint color and single pinstripe.
This car was designated a "1964" Mustang by the Home Office and is currentlyregistered as such.
This is the only 1964-5 Mustang convertible produced in this exact manner and to say its "RARE" is an understatement, especially when you consider Henry Ford II ordered it to be built.This Car is a part of Ford Motor Company history and the documentation is very interesting. Given as a gift to a close family friend from New York.
This 1964 Ford Mustang was built as a one off Design Center Prototype for Henry Ford II outfitted and optioned the way he ordered it.
This Mustang is outfitted with a 289 4 Barrel V8 engine, dual exhaust, Rally Pac, Air conditioning, two speed wipers, 4 speed manual transmission, Power Brakes, Power steering, Power top. Generato, locking glove box door. And of course the custom prototype leather interior. and Special paint, with adistinctive special side pinstripe.
The custom leather interior is an "HF II trademark". These original parts have withstood the test of time and are beautifully aged and in great unrestored condition. The steering wheel is wood look with interesting marbling. The console is covered in leather as are the seats the kick panels and door panel, arm rests and rear quarter trim panels. The front carpet is original.The original "Design Center" interior shows well and is beautiful with prototype parts. This Mustang has the original front carpet.
Paint code on the door data plate is blank signifying special paint. The one off color is called Stanhope green a 1940 Lincoln color. This Mustang was repainted 15 years ago and shows well. The original paint is under the existing paint.This Mustang is all original with the body still sporting its original sheetmetal. The body is good but not perfect. The bumpers were replaced with Ford NOS pieces. The tailight bezels and lenses are nos, The gas cap is NOS from 196, no cable. This car was driven and has 82K miles.
The Drivetrain is all original Engine Transmission Rear end. Runs well and has had a Ford NOS gas tank installed. Original 4 barrel Carburetor,Air Cleaner and remote resoviour for the power steering.
FoMoCo has recognized this Mustang as a 1964 prototype Mustang and that it is a Special Order DSO # 842510. This "Factory Custom" has been doing showcar duty since it was built .
Featured on numerous occasions at the Worlds Fair.
In 2005 this car helped FoMoCo celebratethe 40th anniversary of the Ford Mustang and the televised reveal/roll outof the brand new 2005 Mustang in NYC . Photos shown are with Diane Sawyer and the cast of Good Morning America in NYC.
In April 2014 for the 50thanniversary of the Mustang Ford Motor Company chose non other than the 1964 HF II "Special Order" DSO # 842510 Prototype Convertible to represent the Ford Mustang Convertible for its display inside Ford World Headquarters, Dearborn Michigan.
In May 2014 FoMOCo displayed the HF II "Special Order" # 842510 inside the lobby of the Research and Innovation building. Almost all of FoMoCo patents are created in this place. Interestingly this Mustang celebrated The 50th anniversary of its build in this building with the engineers and designers enjoying cake and coffee.
In July 2014 The 1964 HF II Prototype Mustang Convertible was displayed in the Ford Product Development Center Car Show. This annual Ford run show was dedicated to the 50th Anniversaryof the Ford Mustang and featured a Mustang "Prototype Row"

The lineup of prototypes started with the 1962 Concept car,Next the original Mustang 1963 prototype followed by the 1964 preproduction HF II prototype coupe followed by the 1964 assembly line HF II prototype convertible.The next two cars in this lineup of Prototypes were the Pair of Shelby GT 350 Prototypes.Following these was the 1976 Mustang II Western Prototype.

In 1964 there were only 3 Home Office Special Orders. These "Home Office" special order Mustangs were placed on Henry Fords Desk. Here is the detailed list of these "Numerical Siblings.
#1 Home Office special order DSO # 840027 twelve preproduction Ford Mustangs for the Magic Skyway ride in the 1964 / 1965 Worlds Fair. These cars were for Henrys friend, Walt Disney.
#2 Home Office special order DSO # 842001 3 High Performance 289 Fastbacks that were Made into Shelby Prototypes. One was destroyed early on. The two that survived are Street Prototype GT 350 # 1 and the Competition Prototype Gt350 # 2. As we knoe these Mustangs were for Henrys Friend Carrol Shelby
#3 Home Office special order DSO # 842510 One production Mustang Convertible pulled off the assembly line.This 1964 Ford Mustang was built as a one off Design Center Prototype for Henry Ford II outfitted and optioned the way he ordered it. The 1964 HF II Prototype Mustang Convertible is currently on display at the Piquette Plant Museum in Detroit Michigan. This building is the first factory Henry Ford built to manufacture Ford cars. Located on the 3 floor it has been on display with Bill Ford Jr Ford GT as its companion.

As a side interest Henry II had three Mustangscustomizedin 1964. All three are considered "Prototypes" as they were Design Center styling exercises executed to please "The Duce".
