1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 2 Dr 454 V8 Hardtop Additional Info:
West Coast Classics are happy to present a daily driver example of this 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 2 door hardtop coupe with a later model 454 big block V8 engine, automatic transmission & 10 bolt rear end.The muscle car era was winding to its untimely end by 1971 but it was'nt for lack of enthusiasts wiling to buy such cars. In 1970 the Chevrolet Monte Carlo was offered as an all new luxury performance coupe based on the 116" Chevelle sedan although with an 8" longer frame to provide room for the new 6' long hood, which was there to simply enhance its classic muscle car look and was he longest hood ever put on a Chevy and the model sported a different roofline. The Monte Carlo was sheer luxury inside with comfortable bucket seats, an electric clock and simulated wood dash inlays. There was a full range of sports gauges and power front disc brakes were standard to stop the beast. It was equipped with either a 307 or 350 V8 and offered both luxury and performance and was a sold sales hit. A 402/330HP V8 was also offered and an RPO Z20 big block LS5 454/360HP V8 was also offered with discreet SS454 emblems and an even rarer and now legendary LS6 454/450HP V8 with the M series 4 speed manual gearbox!Chevrolet made very few product changes to the Monte Carlo in 1971, only its second year of production, although returning from the grave, so to speak, was the hood ornament which was now designed with a spring-loaded attachment to avoid impaling pedestrians and the model now boasted eye catching Rally wheels! The Monte Carlo was now offered with a 350 V8, a 402/300HP V8 as per this particular example and again as an SS454 package! Chevrolet did not promote the Monte Carlo SS very heavily and production for this model year was only 2.6% of the 1970 Monte Carlo's built and it dropped nearly 50%, to only 1,919 cars in 1971, making any find a rare one indeed! This particular example has most likely been cloned to resemble an SS454 or is an original SS that is now missing its 12 bolt rear end, rear sway bars and original engine and transmission! In any case we do not have any documentation in the forms of build sheets or Portecto-plate or window sticker etc. It now has a later 454 V8 engine & automatic transmission from the 1980's and a 10 bolt rear end. It should be considered as a daily driver example with some flaws cosmetically and otherwise and quite simply is a car to be enjoyed as is. It has been repainted in 'Black' and has a matching 'Black' interior and has options including power front disc brakes, adjustable tilt steering wheel, side view mirror, tinted windows, and bucket seats with front seat console with floor shifter.
