1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Tribute Additional Info:
Admit it, you've been looking enviously at cars just like this at all the cruise nights and car shows for years, haven't you? Somehow big block Chevelles speak to almost everyone, with their ideal combination of brute power, comfort, and stylish good looks. This incredibly cool 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 Tribute is exactly the kind of car that populates those local shows and that you hear hammering down the road late at night. Isn't it time you started joining in on the fun?
Everybody seems to have a red or blue Chevelle, but this one dressed in sinister black paint really stands out and makes its presence felt with authority. Especially when paired with the painted-on white SS stripes, a timeless color combination that gives the brutal big block Chevelle a high-performance look, so you had better forget about keeping a low profile when you're out on the road. The paint on this one is quite good, with great panel alignment, excellent gaps, and attention to detail that says it was more than just a quickie job. Top driver-quality finishes like this one are the best of both worlds: Nice enough to show off with great pride, but not so perfect that you're scared to ever take it down the road. The white SS stripes are mandatory on a car like this, and they've been blended in under the clear for a seamless look that will last forever. A functioning cowl induction hood with hood pins gives it that aggressive look that you've always admired, while the SS badges and emblems let everyone know this isn't some average grocery-getter. Shiny chrome provides good contrast to the black paint, with the big bumpers fore and aft serving as bookends for the aggressive A-body, and wheel arch and drip rail brightwork emphasizing the car's curves.
The handsome white vinyl interior has been nicely refreshed for a period-correct factory look, including comfortable bucket seats, plush black carpets, and reproduction white door panels that all work to make it an inviting, comfortable place to do the serious business of driving. A factory center console splits the front seats and houses the horseshoe shifter that manages the TH400 automatic transmission below, a look that shouts high performance in every way. The original gauges were swapped in favor of Dakota Digital units that fit directly into the factory bezel, and the digital/analog instruments light up red for a very sporty look ahead of the driver. Amenities include cold A/C, a retro-style AM/FM/AUX stereo, power windows, and a tilt wheel, adding comfort to go along with the monster that lives under the hood. The dash pad is in great shape and free of cracks, the white headliner above is taut, and the back seat provides ample room for three of your friends. Out back, the spacious trunk has been finished with spatter paint and has enough room to accommodate most travel plans.
Powering this '70 Chevelle is a recently built (only 3,054 miles since it was completed) 468 cubic inch big block V8 doing its best impersonation of an LS6. Sure, with a late-model serpentine belt drive you immediately know it's not a real one, but it isn't priced like one, either. It does, however, offer an Edelbrock performance intake, a Holley carb, as well as the requisite HEI ignition system. The cowl induction hood feeds the chrome open-element air cleaner and the entire build has a slick look to it that's very appealing, right down to the shiny inner fenders and black valve covers. Long-tube headers add a few extra ponies and definitely bolster the big block's robust torque curve, and the soundtrack is fantastic thanks to a set of Flowmaster mufflers. Twist the key and it settles almost instantly into an easy idle, and throttle response is right now quick, so there won't be many vintage cars that can beat you on the roll. The chassis is extremely clean with a fresh exhaust system, more-than-capable TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, and a heavy-duty 10-bolt rear end. 15-inch SS Mag wheels that perfectly complement the bodywork wear a set of 215/65/15 front and 275/60/15 rear Cooper Cobra GT radials that finish the killer look.
