FIRST MODEL YEAR FOR THE LONG-WHEELBASE ELECTRA 225
While Buick had enjoyed decades of success with its model lines arranged along the Super, Century, and Roadmaster, offerings were reorganized for 1959 with the Le Sabre and Invicta nameplates added. The Super was now the Electra and the top-of-the-line Roadmaster was renamed Electra 225. Built on General Motors C-body chassis, the Electra 225 was so-named after the cars commanding 225-inch overall length. Offered in just three body styles, the Electra 225 was Buicks halo car for 1959 and beyond. Long and low with an aggressive front end and distinctive tail fins, the Electra 225 remains one of GM design chief Bill Mitchells most unforgettable designs. Along with its GM stablemates, the 1959-60 Buick Electra 225 marks the height of Jet Age automobile design in America.
This majestic Model 4867 1960 Buick Electra 225 Convertible Coupe is beautifully presented in Arctic White over Red and White two-tone leather upholstery. It was purchased already restored from a Californian collection in 2014 by the current owner, a customer of ours who has carefully maintained it ever since. Complemented by tasteful, highly attractive brightwork, this Electra 225 is well equipped for driving pleasure with a pushbutton AM radio with power antenna, power brakes, power steering, a power-operated convertible top, and power windows. As a 1960 model, this Electra 225 also features Buicks innovative new Mirromatic speedometer, featuring an adjustable viewing lens to aid the drivers visibility. Ample power is delivered by Buicks famed 401 CI, 325 HP Wildcat 445 V-8 engine, named in recognition of its massive 445 pounds-feet of peak torque, matched with a smooth-shifting Twin-Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission. Lap belts, a mounted spare tire, roadside jack and boot cover round out this amazing classic Buick. Documentation is excellent to match, including the original selling dealer-issued Protect-O-Plate and an original dealer presentation booklet.
This Electra 225 convertible is one of just 6,746 examples produced for 1960, representing less than 3 per cent of total Buick production for that model year. Fully restored and simply handsome throughout, it will certainly continue to draw admirers everywhere it appears. Find out more by contacting us to see it for yourself today!
