Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very decent final year 3000 MK3 BJ-8 Sports Convertible. This car was purchased from it's previous owner in Dayton, Ohio who purchased it in 1978 and drove the car home. At that time, he noted that everything was functioning fine on the car including the engine, brakes, gearbox, overdrive unit, lights, heater, wipers, etc. This car has been stored in his garage for the past 42 years and has recently been discovered by us as a garage find. This BJ-8 is the final year Austin-Healey and is originally finished in the quintessential color scheme of Healey Ice Blue with Navy Blue interior and will make a fantastic car once refinished.The body on this car appears very good overall with nice fitting panels all around. The car has older white paint that has been touched up in several spots. Chromework appears very nice and original and may polish up. The windshield is the car's factory Triplex glass. The car's underside looks VERY solid for a Healey of this age, but it understandable since it has lived indoors all of it's life except it's first 11 years. There are only some minor rust spots noted on the car in some typical areas for easy repair, but overall the car looks very good and solid overall.The car's interior trim is very original still retaining it's original Healey blue Ambla seat material, door, rear 1/4, front kick panels, along with it's mint dash top pad. The interior is so nice that it might be able to have a few repairs and be saved for it's next restoration! A top, carpet kit and a few repairs may all be needed...The steering wheel needs replacement along with a few other items, but overall the trim isn't too bad.Mechanically, the owner stated that he started the engine a few years ago. We have the engine turning over nicely right now, and will have it running soon with new ignition items installed, and will be posting a video. The current recorded mileage of 60,067 is believed to be original to the car and it appears that the car's correct original engine has never been removed. I'm sure the brake and fuel systems would need a recommissioning, along with a new exhaust system, but that's an easy task to get the car running and driving back on the road.Overall, this final year and best color Austin Healey 3000 MK3 BJ-8 is a well-preserved car, being tucked away in a garage for the last 42 years. It's odometer reading of 60,067 miles is believed to be original to the car and is a great opportunity to acquire one of these desirable Grand Touring Big Healeys in a sensible price range.
