Austin Healey 3000 Mk III, Phase II, Excellent Throughout
The
Austin-Healey 3000 sports carwas built in Great Britain from 1959 to 1967, and is the best known of the"Big Healey"models. The 3-litre 3000 was a highly successful car, which won its class in many European rallies in its heyday and is still raced in classic car competitions by enthusiasts today. It is widely considered one of the great “shapes” in sports cars in motoring history.
The 3000 Mark III was launched in October 1963, and remained in production until the end of 1967, when manufacture of Austin-Healeys ceased. Designated the BJ8, the 2+2 Mark III was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healeys, with a standard walnut-veneer dash, wind-up windows, and a 150hp (112kW) engine. Added power came from a new camshaft and valve springs, twin SU 2" HD8 carburetors, and a new exhaust system design. Servo-assisted brakes were also standard.
In May 1964 thePhase IIversion of the Mark III was released, which gained ground clearance through a modified rear chassis. In March 1965 the car received separate indicators for directionals and running lights (2 per side).
It’s always nice to have the last of a series and the “Austin Healey 3000 Mk III, Phase II” was the very last, with this car being such late production that it was registered as a 1968.

This fine example has been restored as needed to maintain its excellent appearance and driving condition. It received an excellent paint job in its original Colorado Red, all chrome bits were rechromed or replaced where necessary, the interior left original as it shows beautifully, a new top installed, the chassis reinforced, suspension and brakes redone, engine and trunk carefully detailed… to the point where this is an entirely rust-free, rock solid example that shows beautifully and runs perfectly.

The bugaboo of Lucas electrics has been exorcized here: everything works as it should including the overdrive, directionals, all lights, horn, etc. Also, this is a radio delete car, which many find preferable, especially on open air cars, not to mention saving you the task of removing some aftermarket atrocity with speakers drilled in throughout. It wears freshly chromed wire wheels (a period option) and new Pirelli tires all around, with the original painted spare and Cinturato tire in the trunk along with the Copper Thor hammer. The trunk also shows beautifully.
