They checked all the boxes on this one! It literally has almost every option offered from air conditioning, tilt, Am-Fm to the Go Pac, ps, pdb, and more. It even has the dealer upgraded Group 19 performance package. This gem has been collector owned most of its life. Completely restored in 1992 and has only 4,000 miles since. It looks like it was restored last week! It was given the cover shot and 5 page spread in Muscle Cars magazine. EXTERIOR: What a great looking car! The bold grill, dual bulged hood and a fastback roof line gave it an aggressive look. It was designed to attract sports car and muscle car lovers. It was stripped to bare metal, it's a rust free body. It's straight with no damage and it fits right. Repainted its original Matador Red color. It is polished to a smooth glossy finish. The Go Pac includes the over the top stripes and Wide Oval redline tires. The tires are new and are wrapped around chrome Magnum wheels. All the chrome and trim are straight and shiny. The grill and taillight are in in great shape. INTERIOR: I feel the nostalgia while sitting in the interior. It is in excellent shape and mostly still original! It's decked out with options: rally pack which includes a tachometer and gauges, it also has factory AM/FM radio, a tilt wheel and a convenience group including a remote mirror and electric wipers. The dash area is in great unabused condition: the knobs, dash pad, lenses, vents still look great. The carpet down on the floor is in excellent shape and fits really well. Of course, the best part is the Hurst 4-speed shifter sticking out of the floor. It has reclining bucket seats; the upholstery is in excellent shape. The original door panels look to be really nice as well as the original waffle print headliner. There is no back seat, does it qualify as a sports car? ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is loaded with options making it extremely desirable! It has its original 390-315 hp motor, the biggest powerplant AMC offered. It also features dealer installed Group 19 performance upgrades: Edelbrock R4B aluminum intake, hotter cam, chrome air cleaner and a flex fan. This motor was completely rebuilt and Dyno tuned. The motor is also decked out with factory chrome valve covers which still has the tag attached that connects this motor to this car. It also has a new 650 Edelbrock carb with electric choke, electronic ignition and date coded reproduction wires. The factory air conditioning which is rare with a 4-speed in any muscle car. It also has power steering and power brakes which makes driving so much easier. Upgraded aluminum radiator. All the components look clean and proper. It has the washer fluid bag, optional electric wipers and the squirters are hooked up. The underside of the hood, fender wells and firewall are all nicely painted to body color. This engine compartment is well appointed, looks absolutely fantastic and performs even better than it looks! TRUNK COMPARTMENT: When opening the trunk, you will notice that the light is working, that's part of the optional lamp group. The underside of the trunk lid has been painted to the same quality as the body. It has a reproduction sticker, weatherstrip and mat. Inside is clean metal painted red. It still has its original collapsible spare with the AMC air bottle! UNDERSIDE: This car looks great underneath! It does have an older ground up restoration that was very thorough! It has been maintained as needed since the restoration was completed. All the steering components have been rebuilt or replaced and the car handles very nicely. The suspension looks great all the way around. The shocks and springs have all been replaced with heavy duty units. The brakes were rebuilt during the restoration and have been maintained appropriately since then. The e-brake is hooked up, it has disc in front. The dual exhaust system has been redone. The Thrush mufflers and polished chrome tips have this 390 sounding sweet. Looking up at the motor it appears fresh. The original T-10 4-speed was gone through and has a Hurst linkage. It has the Twin Grip rear end with 3.54 gearing. The floors underneath appear rust free and have been painted over during restoration. This is a great undercarriage overall. It performs as good or even better than it looks. SERVICE: Our team of professional mechanics has thoroughly inspected this vehicle and repaired or replaced the following items: replaced the AC compressor then put on a new belt and recharged the system. They rewired the turn signal indicators. This car was very "dialed in" when we purchased it and is absolutely ready to cruise now. This is the ultimate 68 AMX! It checks all the option boxes, it is exceptionally clean, and it's red! The older restoration has proven itself; it looks and performs like it was just done. Only 4,000 miles have been put on the car since it was restored. Extremely rare vehicle here that has been featured in a muscle car magazine! I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership. 815-323-6536 9-5 central Answered ASAP Air conditioning Power steering Power disc brakes Twin Grip 3.91 rear Go Pac Group 19 Performance
