1971 Alfa Romeo Spider Additional Info:

I purchased this beautiful Southern California '71 Spider July 2015 from a dealer. The '71 Spider is a rare and sought after one year only car. I'm not sure of the production numbers - but i believe there were not many brought into the U.S. This is the only year with the Cam tail and the free revving 1750 engine. They are getting hard to find, especially in this condition. I've loved i, but I have 5 Ducati Motorcyles and a Porsche Turbo - and just have to thin the herd. This car was the subject of a total nut and bolt rotisserie restoration in the late 1990's. I have a folder with all receipts (over $20,000) This Spider is an exceptional car in a rare color, Rosso Amaranto. It was stripped down to bare shell and the US side markers were removed giving a much more European look, gaps are absolutely perfect all around, Every rubber seal was replaced and a perfect front screen fitted, the soft top bows were blasted and repainted in black enamel. Along with the body restoration, the motor and transmission were fully rebuilt by a professional shop in the Bay Area, at the same time the complete suspension was overhauled and detailed including fitting brand new Koni classic shock absorbers, all new bushings, balljoints and stainless steel flexible brake hoses. Top is cloth and in almost perfect condition - rear plastic window is not hazed or badly scratched. There are receipts for a new radiator as well as the rebuild for the Spica mechanical fuel injection. The exhaust system was replaced and upgraded with a performance rear silencer. The rear axle is from a 1978 model which is a great upgrade as the 78 rear end features a Limited Slip Differential. The motor starts instantly, (no matter how long it sits, pulls to redline cleanly, and holds absolutely superb oil pressure, the trans shifts easily, does not baulk or grind (no 2nd gear syncro issues) and it behaves like its just been rebuilt. The interior is superb, No Cracks in the dash, has the rubber mats which look as fresh as the day they were fitted. The car is fitted with some Period Procar seats. They're actually really supportive and comfortable. I do have a pair of original seat cores that are in good shape (they go with the car) - but will need recovering. I also have an original '71 Black Plastic Steering Wheel. It has a few cracks where the spokes meet the rim (as happened with all of them) but it can be repaired and is also included. The paint is now about 20 years old. It shines up and shows well, but has some small crazing, a few stone chips and about a 1 inch crack near the fuel filler opening. It also had the later style pininfarina badges mounted on the rear quarters. I have a pair of the correct ones that also go with the car. Wheels are Italian Reproductions of the great looking Momo Vegas mounted with new Dunlop tires. Overall this is a great '71 Spider that can be driven and enjoyed as is. it would take very little work to turn this into a show winner. Buyer to give a $500 paypal deposit within 24 hours. No Warranty is expressed or implied, car is close to 45 years old and is sold "As Is". Inspection is encouraged. Buyer is responsible for transport & I will be happy to help with logistics.
