Description:
This is a very honest, omplete and original Alfa Spider S4. The paint shows clear coat failure and there are some chips and a few minor dings and dents from normal use over the years. This Alfa has no known rust issues with the exception of some isolated bubbling at the rear panel. The top is in good condition but the rear plastic window has been sun damaged. The interior is clean but has a few cracks in the dash. All electrics and accessories work except A/C does not blow cold. Stereo faceplate is missing.
History:
This Alfa Spider has had two California Bay Area registered owners in the past and is well documented since new by the original owner. Although service records are missing from the second owner, t is said to have had about $5k of work done prior to being parked. According to the shop that performed the work, he cylinder head was rebuilt, ew timing chain and guides, ew clutch master and slave cylinders were installed and numerous smaller repairs were performed. After I acquired the car, complete safety inspection was done and the following work was performed totaling over $1500 in parts and labor:
*Cleaned and secured fuel injection system
*Replaced battery with new
*Engine tune up (new distributor rotor, ap and spark plugs)
*Oil service
* Flushed brake fluid
*Added valve and fuel injection cleaners
*Replaced cooling system bypass hose with new part
*Replaced antifreeze/coolant
*Repaired A/C compressor mount and replaced bushing with new parts
*Replaced power steering belt and idler pulley with new parts
Conclusion:
The Alfa starts up on the first crank and settles to a smooth and quiet idle. Response, rivability and gas mileage is very good with smooth shifting in all gears with no grinding. Braking is very good with brake linings at 75% in front and 90% in the rear. Tires have good tread left. This Alfa is a joy to drive in and around the city and at highway speeds and tracks straight down the road. If I were to keep the car I would rebuild the front suspension, nstall new shock absorbers and address a rattle in the exhaust system. All said and done, his is a mechanically strong, eliable, river quality Alfa Spider S4.
