1953 Willys Additional Info:
Thank you for checking out my Korean War Era 1953 M38A1 Military Jeep. These were the first of the new body style of the Rounded fender Jeeps, starting in November 1952. This Willys Jeep, was produced July, 1953 during the Korean War Era. The body on this Jeep is in very nice condition, it has lots of great options, including, the Winch that is run off a PTO off of the transmission, Siren, Tow Hitch, Grill and Light covers, very cool options. It does have another PTO hook up off transmission to run something else. The Grill and Light covers are very rare, and very hard to find. This Jeep also is still running the 24V system as well. It has a Heater under the hood, and works excellent. This is a great Jeep for using around your place, Parades, and would be awesome in a Museum as well, for a Military Jeep it is very clean. This Jeep was restored in the Late 80's.. It has been up kept through the years. It is in very nice shape, and runs like a sewing machine. Spring time is here, and this is a turn key Military Jeep, so if you always wanted one, and want to show it right away, then this is it. This is what a call a very nice driver, it has aged a little, not a fresh restoration, but this is the way I like these, very clean, one your wife would love to ride in, especially since it has a Heater, that feels like a wood burning stove. It does also have a working Siren on the passenger fender, sounds awesome.
The body is in excellent shape, no external rust, or issues. Still has its Dash Tag on the dash, and the one behind the passenger seat on fender well. The body work is very good on this Jeep, very straight all the seams are in nice shape. Structurally it is in excellent shape, an no signs of any damage in the past, sorry no bullet holes that have been patched. It does have minor chips and small scratches, because it has been used, nothing out of the ordinary, very clean from 10' away, if you get really close to it... one of the cleanest Vintage Military jeeps I have seen. The canvas top, side curtins, doors, are all in great shape, no rips or tears, and keeps the water out as much as a canvas top can. The exterior Stars and lettering are vinyl and if you want to change out the bumper numbers, or hood numbers you can. The lettering for the fuel tank and upper lettering is painted on like original. Undercarriage is in very nice original condition, no restored, just kept clean.
Mechanically it is very sound, starts right up, stick kick switch on the floor, turn the power on, pull the choke, hit the gas a few times, and she usually fires right up. The engine burns very clean, does not smoke, or burn oil. It is an original Military Jeep Hurricane engine, in very good shape. The oil is clean, and water is clean. You will see some under photos, were there is some oil residue, but it does not drip on the ground, just typical seepage. The transmission shifts nicely, 3 speed manual transmission. Hi and Low work, and 4 wheel drive works good. The brakes are in good shape, and it has very good Military Tires on it, which are pretty expensive if you ever priced them out, this one has a nice spare as well. The Winch works, and is run by PTO off the transmission. The exhaust system is in good shape as well. Under the hood you will also notice a Drop light as well, that is working. All the wiring under the hood is in good shape. I did pull the valve cover off, and put a new gasket, and repainted the valve cover. The engine inside the head is very clean. Overall, a very good dependable running M38A1.
Interior, well it is a Spartan just like any Military jeep. Nice seats, in good shape, good padding. The original instrument cluster was left unrestored. The speedometer, and odometer are working. The Red instrument night time light does work and looks great at night. The floors are clean, no rust issues. The glass is in good shape, no cracks or chips. The window gasket is in nice shape no cracks or leaking. The windshield wipers are vacuum operated. The Siren on the front passenger fender is working, it sounds great going down the road.
Rare option, this is a Heating unit, works excellent.
Working Siren, sounds awesome, very popular with the locals. This is the regular Horn. Push button next to heater is the Siren Button.
Original grill cover and light cover, very rare.
I also have the Jack, and some pulleys, and hooks, for it has well, forgot to get them out of the compartment under passenger seat.
24V system working like a top.
