1981 VOLVO 262C, BERTONE COUPE, RUST FREE ARIZONA CAR, EXCELLENT PROJECT!
I found this cool Italian built Volvo Coupe in a backyard here in Phoenix, Arizona after it had been sitting there for 20 years.
In 2002 the Volvo was donated to MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and sold at a charity auction. The buyer brought it home and drove it into his backyard, covered it and 20 years later I bought it and brought it out of his yard.He was a horder and had 21 cars in his yard and tons of lawn mowers, equipment and just plain junk.
The car is a project, it only has 76.776 miles on it and it would probably drive again with minimal work. The paint is sun burned, the tires are dry rotted etc. I will install tires that hold air so the car can be moved easily. At some point before it was donated the troublesome Volvo V6 engine was pulled out and a Dodge V6 was installed and the Volvo was driven and used with the Dodge V6 under the hood. If I could keep the Volvo I'd either install a Volvo 4 cylinder engine or a US V8, or just drive it with the Dodge V6.
The body is excellent, no rust. There's 2 dents, one soft dent on the left front fender and one on the right quarter panel, probably from storage or moving the car before the long storage, no accident damage.
The Italian leather interior is in relatively good condition, rare here in hot and dry Arizona. The left front seat is dry and with cracked leather, the right front seat has some split seams, the back seat is nice except for the very top where the sun reached the leather. The door panels are nice, the headliner is also very nice.
I have not started the car.Shortly after I bought the Volvo I moved out of my shop that I have had for almost 40 years and I don't have any indoor space to work anymore so I have to sell a few cars I can't work on.So I'm starting the auction at a low price and it will sell at no reserve.
It is sold with an Arizona title. The 262 has an ignition key but I don't have a key for the trunk so I don't know what is in there.
The car is in Phoenix, Arizona, if sold on export I can arrange transport to shipping port in Los Angeles or Houston, Texas if that is better.
A $500 deposit is due within 24 hours and the balance within 7 days.
Please do not wait and ask questions the last hour before the end of the auction, I might not be able to respond.
