1971 Volvo 1800E -- Additional Info:
If you’re looking for a classic coupe that oozes style, makes a comfortable long-distance tourer, is fun to drive, lasts forever, and you can’t afford a classic Ferrari, E-Type Jaguar or a Porsche then look no further than the Volvo 1800. The unassuming 1800 was Volvo’s sports car, produced from 1961-1973, combining attractive styling and good performance with Volvo's renown safety and reliability, so it quickly found an enthusiastic following. Just how reliable...a Volvo 1800 has been certified as the highest mileage private vehicle driven by the original owner in non-commercial service, having exceeded three million miles! The Volvo 1800 was never intended to be mass-produced. Itwas, and still is, for thosewho wanted a car that looked like an exotic Italian 2+2, but with the safety, quality, reliability and durability of a Volvo...which made the Volvo 1800 an instant icon. Its popularity was boosted from the regular appearance of a Volvo 1800 driven by Roger Moore in the popular British television series "The Saint."Numerous changes came to the Volvo 1800 in 1970 with the introduction of the fuel-injected 1800E model. It had the larger, 2-liter B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft which helped produce a robust 130 hp without sacrificing fuel economy. In addition, the 1800E model was the first Volvo with four-wheel disc brakes. Top speed was just shy of 120 mph and acceleration from 0-60 took just over 9 seconds, all while the occupants were cradled in orthopedically designed adjustable bucket seats complete with lumbar support which made for pleasurable touring.
Offered at NO RESERVE is my unmolested and accident-free 1971 Volvo 1800E in arguably the best 1970’s-era, eye-popping, original color combination of Turquoise over Black. It was recently resprayed with the windows removed, so the car presents beautifully as evidenced in the photos. It has its original numbers-matching, fuel-injected engine, which has just had a complete refresh at a cost of just over $3600. In addition, it has a new water pump, clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing, motor and transmission mounts, and is mated to its original 4-speed manual transmission with a working overdrive. It is equipped with its original Volvo air conditioning which blows ice-cold, its working original Volvo AM/FM radio, driving lights, its factory original wheels with trim rings, spare tire, jack, set of keys and owner’s manual. The chrome is bright, the glass is clear, the interior, gauges (except for the non-working clock), lights, turn-signals, wipers, are all in great condition for this 48-year old classic. Comes witha clean/clear California title which is currently registered in my name. Just get in, turn the key and enjoy!I think “Inga” is drop-dead gorgeous...while a true piece of art, she is a pleasure to drive, gets constant thumbs-up, and is ready to be proudly displayed or to be taken on a comfortable, climate-controlled road trip. The same reasons they were so popular when introduced, makes them highly collectable today and is reflected in their ever increasing value as evidenced by the recent sale of a similar Volvo 1800 at Bonham's Auction in Scottsdale.Unfortunately, I’m moving and she can’t come along. Inspections are welcome and if you have any questions, feel free to call between 8 AM and 8 PM (PST) at 858-705-1912. Also, she is listed for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please don’t bid if you’re not able to complete the transaction. Thank you for your interest.
