1974 Volvo 142 Additional Info:
PRICE lowered for fast sale:
Very nice driver condition 1974 Volvo 142 2-door coupe. This is the final year for the 140 series cars and is quite rare. I obtained this 142 last year in trade for another one of my classic Volvo's and I've since acquired a 145 wagon. I prefer the wagons and that's why I'm selling this coupe. Clear Virginia title currently running on antique tags.
It had been restored by a previous owner which also included some performance tweeking:
performance camnew headerschrome cylinder headan aggressive sounding performance exhaustupgraded radiator fanIPD sway bars
This is a true 4-speed (no overdrive) that shifts and drives really well and was just tuned by a well known local classic Volvo mechanic. There's no power steering so you can work your muscles while you carve back country roads. Under the hood is Volvo's B20 engine. The 1974 Volvo's featured the bullet proof Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system that was used on many European cars during this period in the 1970's. There is a slight clacking noise while at idle which my vintage Volvo mechanic tells me is a "wrist pin bushing" on one cylinder (available for $5 at IPD). The car does not leak or burn oil.
While the speedometer and all other gauges work (even the clock!), the odometer does not and currently shows 57,400 miles (true mileage unknown). The odometer issue is likely inside the instrument cluster. A factory A/C unit is in the car but it is not connected or running and I have not had it serviced. There's a custom fitted dash cover over a very good original dash with only a few minor cracks in the typical places for Volvo 140/240 series cars. The original radio has been upgraded to a Kenwood am/fm/cd stereo with 4 speakers (two under the front seats and two box speakers on the rear deck lid).
The interior is in excellent condition... very nice original headliner and carpet with all original seating surfaces showing very minor wear but no rips or tears (see photo's). Custom fitted Coco mats are fitted front and rear.
The exterior is a combination of very nice original and some repainted areas...you'll see the typical small nicks and scratches etc but from 10 feet it's a real looker. The original dealer logo on the car is from North Carolina. It later spent time in Kentucky and Arkansas before coming to Virginia. The trunk is huge and has the original trunk mat (no spare). There is no rust on this car except for typical surface rust underneath- (see photo's)
There are 4 excellent Kumho 15 inch tires running on rare Volvo turbo "Virgo" wheels with wheel locks.
Also Included: factory owners manual, shop repair manual, some extra parts and K-Jet manual
I have this Volvo advertised locally and on a few other classic car sites so the listing may be ended at any time. While not a show car, you'd be hard pressed to find another one this nice still on the road as the 140 series cars are by far the rarest in the Volvo community. Questions?...happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability (but be advised, I'm mechanically challenged)- just send an email through the Ebay mail system and I'll get back to you asap.
Personal inspections are encouraged... the car is garaged in Central Virginia, about 2 hours drive southwest of Washington DC and within a few miles of the airport in Charlottesville, Va. Happy to work with your shipper or recommend a shipping broker that I trust and have worked with for years.
