This is one of those cars that makes you stop for a minute before you hand over the keys.

I recently finished this 1962 Volkswagen Beetle from the pan up, and I honestly believe this is one of the nicest early Beetles I’ve had the opportunity to put together. It wasn't built to be a quick flip or dressed up to look good in photographs. A tremendous amount of time went into the little things — the things you notice when you're standing next to the car, looking underneath it, opening the doors, turning the key, and driving it.

The result is a very honest, beautifully restored '62 that still feels like a 1962 Volkswagen should.

The car retains its original matching-numbers 1,200cc air-cooled engine, original matching-numbers transmission, and matching-numbers chassis/pan. The original drivetrain has been gone through, resealed, serviced and professionally tuned. The car has also been converted from the original 6-volt electrical system to 12 volts, making it much more practical to own and enjoy today.

The body is exceptionally straight, finished in fresh high-gloss paint, and received a full three-step cut, buff and polish. The glass, seals, trim, badges, handles, mirror, running boards, guards and lighting have all been replaced or restored. The body lines are clean and straight, and the car has the kind of finish that is difficult to appreciate in photographs.

Inside, the same approach was taken. The headliner, sail panels and seats have been refreshed, with new carpet and restored dash, gauges, trim, knobs, handles, panels and clusters. Everything was cleaned up and put back together properly rather than simply made to look good from ten feet away.

Mechanically, this is a turnkey driver. It starts easily, idles properly, shifts smoothly, brakes well and drives straight. The engine and transmission have fresh seals, fluids and filters and have been professionally tuned. The brakes and tires are fresh, and the underside has been cleaned, sealed and undercoated.

And the little things work. Wipers. Gauges. Lights. Horn. Blinkers. That matters on an old Volkswagen.

I've also included a collection of original VW manuals and service literature from the 1960s, along with the original spare tire, jack and boxes of original and spare parts. It's the kind of stuff that usually disappears over the years, and I wanted it to stay with the car.

This Beetle has spent its life on the West Coast and comes from a dry, rust-free environment. It has been garage kept and is now finished and ready to be enjoyed. You can take it to a local cars & coffee, put it in a collection, or simply drive it. And honestly, I'd encourage the last one.

Because underneath all the restoration work, the paint and the attention to detail, this is still what makes an old Beetle so enjoyable. You turn the key, hear that little flat-four come to life, point it down the road and suddenly you're not in a 60-year-old car anymore — you're just having a really good time. No project. No sorting-out period. No list of things waiting for the next owner. She's done. Just get in and drive.
