1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Additional Info:

For sale, my wife's 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, which I bought for her in June 2023, when we lived in Illinois. 69K miles on the ODO, I'm guessing it's rolled over, but don't know. The body's clean enough that it might be original. It's a 1600 single port, not original to the car. The color is a custom cognac or root beer brown or copper, call it what you will, it's a really nice paint job. Zero rust. New white interior, nice square weave carpet, and Coco mats that I had made for it. Disc brakes up front, rear brakes are not currently hooked up. It was with Das Kaferhaus in Woodstock, IL from June 2023 then until March 2025. I had them remove the restomod steering wheel, billet door handles, billet shifter and e-brake handle and replaced them with originals (the e-brake, steering wheel D ring NOS). I had the shifter replaced with a new unit. I had the factory speaker replaced with a 5 1/4 inch 1970 full range AlNiCo magnet speaker from Japan, in the stock opening in the dash. They installed a restored 1975 Blaupunkt Emden head unit (with bluetooth) that I got from Germany ($600). They replaced the crank pulley with a Ross Wulf unit. They got the heater cables unstuck and operational, changed the oil, adjusted the valves, replaced the valve cover gaskets, replaced the trans fluid, got all the lights working. It got to Pittsburgh in March of this year, I put a battery in it. My guy in Pittsburgh recently lubed and adjusted the trunk cable, replaced the front tie rods, replaced the coil, adjusted the emergency brake and cables, cleaned the carb, adjusted the mix and idle, adjusted the throttle cable, adjusted the fan belt, and replaced the dipstick with a stock unit. There's a crack in paint by passenger the headlight, and a couple of small cracks in the paint on the underside of the nose on the passenger side of the car. The car idles, runs and drives nicely, and blows no smoke, however the compression on number four cylinder is at 125, with the other three at 140. I'm guessing that means a ring, however haven't gotten that far. My plan was to put a built motor in it, and put dual carbs on it. Heater flaps are stuck in the open position, needs a thermostat, needs a single ball joint. I think the previous owner removed the lower shock bushings. There's no license plate lights, or interior cabin light. I don't believe the driver rear view mirror is correct. Sale includes a set of new reproduction side chrome, paid $300. My wife got a new job, on the Big Island of Hawaii, where she grew up, and we've moved, and sadly need to sell the Ghia to fund the move. I paid $19,500 for the car, and have put another $11,500 in it. The car is in my Father-in-Law's garage in Pittsburgh, and he'll be showing it to prospective buyers. He has the folder with all the records and receipts, while I have the title and an electronic copy of the master spreadsheet with me here in Hilo. Bank check or money order only.
