The Golf has been a staple of the Volkswagen model line up since its introduction in 1974, followed by the convertible Cabriolet version in 1979. Over 8 Generations, the Golf has been an inspiration to all types of drivers, whether for sensible and economical transportation, or sport versions for spirited driving for those heavy-footed enthusiasts! The first generation of Cabriolet design ran from 1979 through 1993 and became affectionately known as the Mk1 version. Today, they continue to be enjoyed by the Volkswagen faithful, both in original form and customized with personal performance touches such as this once offered here! We are excited to offer this 1991 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet professionally refinished in Navarra Blue Metallic over special Blue Plaid cloth interior. Its current owner initiated a complete custom restoration with the help of All German Performance based in Ashville, NC in 2020. Beginning with a super solid Etienne Aigner Edition Cabriolet in original Midnight Blue, they would immediately have the original engine and transmission removed, and the body sent to C&M Paint Werks in Weaverville, NC for a complete strip to bare metal. They also remove the body side moldings, marker lights, antenna, badges & emblems, and fill any unnecessary firewall and inner fender holes before a truly meticulous application of new Audi-sourced Navarra Blue Metallic paint was sprayed. Once returned to the team at All German Performance, it was already prepped to receive a new Mk4 GTI 2.0L Turbo-charged engine/transmission transplant in place of the original motor. It would be fitted with S&P Automotive swap kit along with their aluminum radiator/intercooler assembly, remote coolant bottle expansion tank, and Torque-Tamer frame support; K&N air filtration; ST Suspension ST-X coil overs, Poweralign camber bolt kit, and polyurethane steering rack bushings, Eurosport front anti-sway bar & rear strut support brace; Dieselgeek Sigma 5 short-throw shifter with BFI shift knob, Techtonic Tuning stainless steel downpipe with Borla exhaust and ESC finishing tip; gorgeous two-piece welded Rotiform aluminum wheels with brushed centers and polished outer lip; complete 4-wheel disc brake conversion borrowed from a Volkswagen Scirocco 16V with stainless steel brake hoses and new E-brake cables; MOMO Prototipo leather wrapped steering wheel, Recaro Trophy seats, Coco floor mats, LED headlights, and so much more! The results come from a full 2-year effort finished in 2022, and it has been driven and enjoyed only sparingly since completion. It boosts 180 factory rated horsepower without any internal modifications to the stock GTI drivetrain, with the exception to a S&P Automotive engine harness and ECU tune for optimum performance. Inside, the custom blue plaid material was sourced directly from Germany, then sent along with the Mk1 seat frames and Recaro seats to GTS Classics in Austin, TX to be reupholstered and professionally upfitted. The convertible top was also replaced with new black cloth material. Nothing was left untouched, and it has a striking presentation that all who see it firsthand rave about! It drives out simply wonderfully, with excellent road manners in every single mechanical category. The build cost was staggering with no expense spared along the way. Please call with additional questions or to schedule a chance to review it in person.
