Hello and welcome to my Auction. You are looking at a pretty original good running Old-Skool 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit that I have performed a detailed mechanical restoration on to make it dependable and reliable while still retaining its classic character. I purchased it about 3 years ago from an older Southern California gentleman who had owned it for about 20 years and used to drive it regularly. He stopped driving it when the original 1.5 liter Diesel Engine blew up and parked it in his yard out in the desert. I had it towed over to my place and tore out all the old mechanicals and put it all back together. While the old drivetrain was out, I pressure washed and replaced the Steering and Brakes components detailed as follows:
1. Original 1.5 Liter Diesel Engine replaced with mid-90s Used low-mileage (80k miles) 1.9 Liter Normally Aspirated Diesel Engine imported from Europe along with the following NEW OEM parts.2. New Gaskets & Seals.3. New Timing Belt & Tensioner.4. New Water Pump & Thermostat.5. New Heavy Duty Radiator.6. New 7-Blade Radiator Fan Motor.7. Rebuilt Steering Rack & Pinion with New Boots & Tie Rod Assemblies.8. New Lower Control Arm Bushings.9. New Lower Ball Joints.10.New Front Struts & Upper Strut Mounts.11.New Rear Shocks & Upper Shock Mounts.12.New Engine & Transmission Mounts.13.Rebuilt Front Brake Calipers upgraded to the larger later model style with New Pads.14.New Front Brake Rotors.15.New Rear Brake Shoes, Hydraulic Wheel Cylinders, & Drums.16.New Master Cylinder.17.New Front & Rear Wheel Bearings.18.New Front CV Boots and cleaned and repacked driveshafts.19.New Clutch Kit.20.Re-Sealed 5-Speed Transmission.21.Remanufactured Alternator.22. Fairly new Battery.23.New Battery Cables.24.New Coolant Hoses & Drive Belts in Engine Compartment.25.New Tires all around.26.New ABS Plastic Dash Cover.27.New Front Windshield Rubber Seal.28.New proper Metric Nuts & Bolts all around as needed.29.New Sound Deadening under Hood.30.New Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil & Filter31.New Coolant, Transmission Gear Oil & Brake Fluid.32.New Bulbs & Fuses as needed.33.New Wheel alignment.34.New Wiper Blades.35.New Radiator Fan Switch
As you can see I have spared NO expense or effort to make this car dependable and a great daily driver. Every part replaced here is OEM except for maybe the battery. If you follow the prices of OEM parts you know that stuff don't come cheap! Cosmetically the car is pretty solid and still with the original Sunshine Yellow (Sonengelb) factory paint which is chipped and peeling in places. There is a bunch of surface rust here and there, but no huge gaping holes. The interior is fairly nice with the exception of the driver's seat which has a couple of small rips. The Headliner is nice too and so is the carpet. The Dashboard did have cracks on it but is covered with a nice ABS Plastic matching cover which actually looks nice.
ALL lights, Horn, Wipers, Turn Signals, Blower work as they should. The Radio does not work. ***. *** This car is NOT equipped with AC.
This car is a pleasure to drive and turns heads everywhere I go. It sounds nice, drives nice and straight, and goes thru the bumps nice. The 5-speed Transmission shifts nice and smooth with no funny noises. The 1.9 Liter is a nice upgrade over the old anemic 1.5 Liter Diesel Engine and easily keeps up with other vehicles on the Freeway. As you can see in one of the pictures showing the Instrument Panel, the engine runs pretty cool. It also climbs most hills in 5th gear without having to gear down. With not too aggressive driving, this Rabbit gets between 45-50mpg. The car comes with a clean California Title and current Registration.
I have tried to describe this vehicle as honestly and in most detail as I possibly can. I'm sure I'm forgetting some minor stuff but this is most of it. If you have any other questions I haven't addressed here, feel free to ask.
You are most welcome to fly in to Las Vegas and pick up the vehicle. Or,if you want it shipped, we can help deliver the vehicle to your Trucker of choice.
