1979 Volkswagen Rabbit Additional Info:
1979 VW rabbit dealer edition. 2 door, no sunroof, factory roof rack, wood grain decal. I have done a bunch of searching and this is the only ones I have ever seen in the 2 door with wood grain decal. It was released at the 1979 Chicago auto show and it is rare to say the least.
Engine: 1.6 turbo diesel. Bottom end is all new. Still in the second honing group it has new rings, bearings, and seals all around. Head is in excellent condition and it starts and runs real easy. Turbo has no play what so ever and spools nicely. It runs and drives great. Had it up to 70 on the highway no problem. Currently has gauges hooked up to monitor new engine build...they can stay or go depending on the look you want. 5 speed transmission.
Interior: Excellent excellent condition. The dash does have a few cracks but the rest is pretty darn nice. All carpet is clean. Seats are nice and not worn out. Headliner is in great shape. Door cards are straight and do not have moisture warpage. All doors close super clean and it is very quiet at 70 mph.
Exterior: This car last ran about 15 years ago. I was in a garage for most of it, but the last few years it spent outside under a tarp with a few bricks on the hood, hence the "patina". I wet sanded out the hood to keep the look and then shot 4 layers of clear over the top. If you really want it all to match a bodyshop could repaint the hood easily. I did a buff and cut on the entire car. Removed the roof rack, siliconed all the screws, then got a solid layer of wax on it. Decals are a little rough here and there but they are intact, as I ran the buffer over them at 3000 rmp and they are still there. Has a handful of small dents from the massive hail storm we had a few months ago. Also has 1 very small rust spot in the rear quarter panel that is all the way threw, no idea why just this one spot has rust BUT the rest of the car is super solid, no lie. The car also had factory undercoating and most of it is still in tact. All the glass, except windshield is Audi factory original and has professional window tint all the way around. 1 key runs everything still, original.
I am looking for a drive that knows what this is and wants to keep it on the road. It's not perfect, though is in great condition and could be driven as a daily driver tomorrow. I know the previous owner who had it for the last 20 years, he is right around the corner from my shop. Try to google it you won't find a single picture of a 2 door wood grain.
* Note: It has two different wheels on it in the picture. I have multiple sets of wheels so it your choice when you pick it up. Seven two zero, four three seven, zero six three eight if you have any question
