1964 Volkswagen 13 WINDOW VAN DELUXE Additional Info:
You are looking at a nut and bolt restored 1964 VW 13 Window Bus. This vehicle has been on display at our local VW store for many years with a plaque telling some of the history of the VW van.
The plaque reads,
The VW van was introduced in 1950 as VW's second car model, following the Beetle. Although most people know the van by one of its nicknames it is officially called Volkswagen Type 2. Like the Beetle, the van has various nicknames all around the world, such as "micrbobus", "minibus", and also "Hippie van" because of its popularity in the the 1960's. The first van, Type 2, rolled off the assembly line on November 12, 1949. Only two models were offered back then, the Kombi and the Commercial. The Microbus was added in May 1950, then the Deluxe Microbus in June 1951. Their first year of production there were only 9,541 vans made. The vans stayed almost the same until 1968 when the body style was heavily modified. This Van came from California where it underwent a full restoration by Octavio's, and is now part of the Harmony Motors Collection.
