1974 Volkswagen Thing Additional Info:
This 1974 Volkswagen Thing is a cool classic that was restored to be a true sunny day friend. It's distinct inside and out, and it's even in the well-finished and upgraded engine bay. So dig into all the interesting features and great upgrades on this always-memorable VW.
Volkswagen's Type 181 was only offered in the USA for two shorty years, so all of them are rare. But you can also instantly tell this one has been given extra attention to give it the crisp look of good care and a solid investment in the right places, right down to the rubber body seals. Plus, there's plenty of added distinction that takes it far from stock. The bright red paint is a more modern application. So while a Thing is a sunshine-friendly machine, this one looks bold even without the daylight. Of course, you do want the sunshine on this, because it gives extra gleam to all the brightwork upgrades, like the tubular bumpers, side step bars, and 15-inch wheels. Even the little things, like the door handles and hinges have been upgraded for a great shine. The whole custom package remains looking bright because the car was restored less than 1,000 miles ago. And you can see that they spent real time on the details, like how the trunk and engine bay are painted tan to match the interior.
The tan on the surrey top and custom rear bars not only make this look like a true island-life kind of classic, but also it gets you ready for the tan interior. There are plenty of thoughtful details here, like the upgraded set of rear fold-flat seats, carpeting, and an AM/FM/CD stereo. Up front, there are two bucket seats that make this feel like a beach buggy, and the very handy four-point seat belts are done in an exterior-matching red. Plus, this one was made for driver's fun with upgrades like the Lecarra wood-rimmed steering wheel, sports shifter, and additional VDO gauges, including the large tach.
The engine bay has a terrific look as the tan chamber is surrounded by a red fan shroud and detailing. This is an era-correct 1600cc powerplant, and everything looks so fresh that you can also easily spot the performance upgrade. The dual set of Weber carbs really lets this hardy flat-four inhale deeply. And the upgraded exhaust header setup lets it exhale better with a nice air-cooled tune. With the control of the four-speed manual transmission, motor weight over the driving wheels, and modern Michelin A/T tires, this Thing can certainly live up to the more off-road nature that VW initially engineered it to do. But the look of the clean undercarriage suggests no one has tried that since the restoration. Plus, this is a lively machine with front disc brakes, so it's plenty of fun on the road, too.
It's hard not to instantly love something this cool and custom. So you better hurry if you want this to be your Thing. Call today!!!
