1978 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Additional Info:
1978 Volkswagen LT28D, Off-White, Rust Damage, Runs Well, Solar with Inverter. Condition is Used.
I bought this VW in Sicily. It was originally from Germany, and to my knowledge, I am the third owner. The rim where the top meets the metal body of the van has rust and needs to be fixed. There is temporary silicone patching to prevent leaking that will need to be removed during the restoration process. There are also rust spots along the outside as well as scraped wheel wells on the passenger side. The frame above the back doors also has significantrust and will most likely need to be replaced. Once repaired the van will also need to be repainted. The vehicle is sold as is, with blemishes and all.
The previous owner left the van fairly originalbut made a few welcomed updates. The biggest being a solar panel and inverter set up, giving the van "home power". The set up needs a new battery but includes one working battery. New lights were installed inside in a few places, as well as updated headlights. There is a backup camera installed that just needs to be reconnected and the display mounted. (It was disconnected when it was shipped.) The van's odometer and speedometer are both in kilometers. The van sleeps four comfortably, with a loft bed and a booth setup that converts to a bed. Seats six comfortably with no seatbelts in the back. It is a fun ride and quite easy to drive. 4 speed with the motor in between the two front seats. It's a gasoline vehicle! Both the gas tank and water tank were replaced with the previous owner. The kitchen set up is very nice, but the gas set up for the stove needs to be converted to propane from the Italianset up. The fridge doesn't work currently, but works well as a cooler. There was a hot water heater installed for the sink and shower as well as a water filter for drinking water. The toilet is completely removable and comes in two parts; the top holding clean water and solution for flushing, and the bottom as a holding tank. They need to be filled and emptied manually. The inside is mostly originalfrom what I can tell. There is plenty of storage around the back of the vehicle as well as under the rear two seats that form a bed.
This van is an amazing piece and I debated on parting with it. Truth is, that it needs some TLC and I am currently not able to devote my time to fixing it. I have driven it all across Sicily and have had no problems with it. I lived out of it for a few weeks when I returned to the States, too. Changed the oil and antifreeze in Januarywith no problems. If you're looking for a unique one of a kind Volkswagen Bus, this is it!
