1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible Additional Info:

There are some vintage VWs that you want to collect, and some you want to drive. Then there are the few like this 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible that have all the right features to make you want to do both. When it comes to owning a convertible Bug, 1979 was the final year of a legend and the best of a breed. Volkswagen/Karmann knew how to produce these bodies with true German precision that was still simple to maintain. It is a level of fit and finish that makes the Beetle an enduring icon. Adding to this durable feeling is a more recent respray of a very distinct orange - it's almost like they mixed VW's colors of Nepal Orange and Phoenix Red together. This added distinction continues with some nice subtle upgrades, like a little extra shine in the chrome bumpers that are complemented by the upgraded chrome running boards. The crisp black roof looks great against the bright orange paint. And if you like the way this looks, you'll love taking this down to reveal the full black interior. And just like the exterior, it's clean, complete, and has a few nice upgrades. The high-back bucket seats that came on the later models are particularly comfortable for all-day cruising. You can tell there was a nice investment here to get them looking good, and there's even a cool VW logo stitched into the headrests. Volkswagen treated these last few Beetle convertibles as premium machines, so you got plenty of features, including the wood appearance package on the dash. And today it's all still so nicely preserved. But they also left room for some nice upgrades mixed in, too. So while you'll enjoy additions like the EMPI shifter and Grant sports steering wheel, the classic single VDO gauge dominating the instruments is pure vintage VW. You can tell by looking at the engine bay that there was a nice investment in here. The 1500cc motor was rebuilt about 2,000 miles ago. It looks terrific with a very tidy presentation that includes a Bosch coil, distributor cap, and wires. Plus, with twin Weber 44 carburetors, the robust motor now has a nice extra hit of power. Best of all, you take complete control over this air-cooled flat-four symphony with the four-speed manual transmission. As many VW fans already know, this is a Super Beetle. That means an improved steering box and an independent front suspension with sway bar. There's even been an upgrade to front disc brakes. So it's a very desirable total driving package. This one is clean, stylish, and absolutely complete - right down to the plastic caps on the new sport wheels. This is the last year for the legendary Beetle in the USA, and this is the perfect cruiser to properly celebrate the end of an era. So if you're a VW fan, don't miss out on this opportunity.
