1957 Volkswagen Beetle Desirable Oval Window Runs, Drives, Stops Partially Restored – New Floors Late-60s 1500cc Engine / 4spd Chassis: 301325 Body: 322834 Engine #: H5216282 (1500cc from ‘68-69) Build Date: September 1956 The Exterior: - Please take a look at the photos and video, as the car is shown in detail. - Missing mid-line chrome trim. - Body is nice and straight, with minimal dents or damage. - Chrome bumpers and trim pieces are pretty well presented, they show some age but have minimal oxidation. - Glass is clear and crack-free. The Interior: - Bare-bones.... Seat frames are intact, need to be stuffed and upholstered. - Period Motorola Volumatic radio is a cool accessory. Not currently functional though. - Turn signals are functional and light up on the speedo, headlights aren’t currently functioning. - 06796 on the odometer, actual chassis mileage unknown. Under the Hood / Under the Car: - The previous owner began restoring this car but did not get to the paint/body. He started with having the necessary sheet metal replaced. It was done well and looks great. The underbody is the strongest point of this car. Floors are new throughout and have been undercoated then painted gloss black. Nice, smooth new floors, not shoddy, textured repaired ones. Really no rust to note on the underbody. Suspension components are in good order as well, not dried up or rusted. Corners of the rear quarter body panels yes there is some rust to consider, but underneath the car is quite nice. Please defer to the photos. - Engine is a 1500 out of a 68-69 Beetle, engine number H5216282. Four speed manual trans, number 113301173. - Car runs, drives, and stops. Steering could use some attention, as it wanders a bit. Brakes are great. Car shifts smoothly and the clutch feels very good. Pulls through the gears nicely without any hesitation or stuttering. Choke is a little wonky so the car needs to be warmed up a bit before it’ll hold a nice steady idle. Overall, this is an awesome starting point. We love Oval Windows and this one has great bones for a restoration candidate or even a well-patina’d driver.
