1966 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Additional Info:
I recently finished refurbishing this car from top to bottom. I started with a 1966 Volkswagen bug thats still holds a good amount of it’s original paint. The shell was pressure washed and buffed. The pan was also pressure washed and painted with gloss black rust-oleum paint. The pan is pretty solid with the exception of 1 or 2 small pin holes.
The pan was assembled using an adjustable 3” narrowed beam from Old Speed with all new brake components to include Porsche pattern (5x130) disc brakes up front. The rear brakes are Porsche pattern studded drums with new shoes and springs inside. The ball joints and tie rod ends are new and on a fresh alignment that was performed at a shop. The transmission is a re-built stock geared Pro-Street from Benco with new rhino mounts. Shifting rod bushing was replaced along with the bushings in the pedal assembly. New clutch cable and bowden tube was installed, along with a new throttle cable. The rims are reproduction Porsche Fuchs 4.5x15 up front with new Firestone 135’s and the rears are 6x15 with new Firestone 205/70’s. The wheels were detailed/painted by “Hans Detailed Fuchs”.
The engine is a re-built 1679cc that was built by Chico Performance Racing in Arcadia, California. The engine features thick wall cylinders and pistons from AA, 44mm carburetos, lightened flywheel, Scat 69mm crank, full flowed engine case, Bosch 010 distributor with electronic ignition, Gene Berg 1.5 quart oil sump, new chrome alternator, powder coated cooling tins, 4tuned merged header, Web 163 cam with straight cut cam gears and ported heads with 9:1 compression ratio. The engine turned 110 HP on the dyno.
New vinyl interior from TMI was installed with new foam pads under. New wood Flat-4 GT steering wheel was installed with matching original copper Hurst shifter with wooden knob. New window rubber with American trim was used when the windows were re-installed. A new wiring harness was installed and everything works with the exception of the windshield wipers because its missing the motor/assembly, yes…the horn works. The car is currentlyregistered and insured. I drive the car occasionally...drives and stops perfectly.
The bad: the car has dents and is rusty in common areas, its by all means not perfect! The title is “rebuilt” but no major damage from a collision can be found. One lug nut is stripped/broken.
I am sure I left something out, however feel free to contact me at (562) 965-8245 if there are any questions you may have. I canprovide additional pictures. I can assist with shipping worldwide and can transport the car within a few hundred miles at an additional fee.
