The Mean Streets of Brooklyn are no home for our OOF or any other Westy. It’s time to let go.

Mechanical / Electrical - Very Good
- The original engine is alive and well. It is robust and responsive. It starts cold and restarts hot without hesitation, whine, or shudder. It runs smooth, without a stutter, hiccup, pop or sputter. Its sound is more hum-along than chug-chug song.
- Out of an abundance of caution, I tried to adopt a program of preventative/restorative care in addition to the regular scheduled maintenance and any unexpected repairs, some of which are listed here below:

Maintenance - Regular and preventative - Fully documented
- A complete 30+ year history (previous owner 1985-2014 / mine 2014-present) documenting the care, maintenance and repair (including manuals, records and receipts) will passed to new owner.
- Regular and scheduled maintenance has been performed by the both, the previous owner and myself.
- A program of preventative care and parts-replacement based on the available knowledge, experiences, advice and warnings shared openly online by VW owners in community forums; that, and a bucket full of luck, whatever the reasons, although anticipated, we have been completely spared of difficult days, negative experiences, pain and suffering of other Westy owners. We have experienced none of the known vanagon-related disorders, we have had no breakdowns, nor have we needed major repairs.
Interior - Very Good
- The Interior is complete and is more or less original. The upholstery is in excellent, like new condition: credit the previous owners, who kept the beds, benches, seats and cushions covered with plastic. (just Grandmother’s formal living room). The side and rear curtains, front wrap-around privacy screen, sliding door and rear hatch mosquito screens are also complete and in like-new condition. I removed the middle floor carpet when I bought it. The front, between, behind the seats carpet is original and in good condition. There are no floor mats.
- The closets, cabinets, bench storage locker, 2 dinette tables with table legs, 3 swivel seats, rear bench/fold-out bed, upper bunk bed are all original except for the rear above-the-bench storage cabinet, which was installed when the AC was removed. All 3 seats swivel. The mother-in-law seat is removable. The chocolate brown dashboard has no cracks, no swelling, no sun fading.
- The plastic/metal handles, knobs, pulls show their age; I pre-bought many interior parts replacing them as needed. A box of spare interior parts is included. The rear view mirror is broken - needs to be replaced.
- The previous owners never used the upper-bunk bed, so the cushion is in excellent condition. (We used is a total of 14 nights in 4 years. The pop-top ceiling flocking is free of gaps, scars, marks, mold and discoloration. The one-window canvas tent is clean, but thinning due to age. A new mosquito netting was sewn in by the previous owner. The pop-top includes a manual roof vent/sunroof with mosquito screen attachment
- The kitchen appliances are complete and were in working order when we purchased the camper (4 yrs / 6000 miles ago): 40L Water tank; 12V + 110-125 Volt Electrical system; Liquid Propane LP 2 burner Gas Stove; Elec/LP Refrigerator.
Exterior - Good
- The Exterior is the original gold-brown color and the body is free of customization or other modification, except for a 4’ running board-step installed (by previous owner) beneath the sliding door entry,
- The luggage rack and the pop-top are both in excellent condition: entirely free of chips, cracks, warp, discoloration, mold or other. I removed the old, cracked seal from the pop-top recently and have a replacement seal kit that would need to be installed by new owner.
-The body was in excellent condition when purchased. (Except for 1. A small dent with paint-loss and surface oxidation was later discovered when front bra was removed. 2. Minor rust and paint-bubbling along horizontal seam of lower, rear-side body panel.)
- 4 years in Brooklyn shows. The body condition once excellent, is now best described as Good. Last year, twice in one month, while parked on the street, defenseless and exposed our Westy was side-swiped by inconsiderate Brooklyn drivers. Both times suffering cosmetic body damage, although neither extreme nor structural, the scars remain visible in varying degrees from back to front bumpers, along the entirety of the driver’s side. The resulting dents, scrapes and other damages to the body panels call for corrective address by a
bodyshop. The bumpers could be left as or swapped out at time of any body fixes.
- The side view mirrors have been replaced with heavy duty ones from Bus Depot (I think). The same 4 degree Winter morning the rear view mirror crumbled in my hand, the sliding door handle snapped in half. It needs replacement. (Not on hand).
- No body rust other than the minor issues aforementioned.
- No leaks. No fit, joins, seam issues.
- Chassis and undercarriage damage, rust and corrosion-free.
