1993 Volkswagen EuroVan Additional Info:

Selling relatively low mileage (132,000) extremely clean 93 MV Weekender.I maintained this van with an intention of keeping it indefinitely but recently I decided to purchase a four-wheel drive vehicle instead as Eurovans have limited utility on the dirt roads I want to travel on.

Engine and transmission

In the last 5,000 miles, the tires have been replaced, the engine has been rebuilt, and the transmission has been rebuilt. The rebuilt transmission is still under warranty (the warranty expires in November 2018.) The transmission has an add-on external cooling system to keep the transmission fluid at an optimal operating temperature. The vehicle runs Mobile 1 synthetic oil. This model doesn't have the automatic transmission and timing chain issues associated with later V-6 models.

The van has an inline five-cylinder engine. The VIN is WV 2MD 0706 PH 003204. The 1993 Model was the first of the new front-engine front-wheel drive vans produced by VW.Current miles on the van are 132,000. The rebuilt engine and transmission have under 5,000 miles on them.

The tires are relatively new Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires with plenty of tread. The van has an ABS brake system.

The Eurovan drives well and will cruise at 60 mph on the freeway and gets 16 + mpg on the highway. It can tow 4,500 lbs. though I have not towed with it. It has a clean title and a recent California SMOG certificate.

Exterior

The exterior of the van is free of dents or rust. The gray interior of the van and the pop top canvas and struts are in good shape. The pop top has recently been caulked and patched and is water tight. The windshield has a crack from when it picked up a pebble on the freeway; the pebble started a divot that turned into a crack.

Interior

AC, cruise control, and a captain's chair on the passenger side. The doors have power locks and power windows.

The rear cabin has a fold up table, a ceiling Fantastic Fan (with remote), and a bank of LED lights. Two deep cycle batteries provide power for the fan, LED lights, mobile devices, laptops, etc. and can power these devices for days.

The van can sleep four, two in the rear cabin and two in the pop-top. Two persons is a comfortable arrangement, four is not though imho. When not being used as a sleeping area, the Westfalia pop-top can be raised to allow you to stand straight.

The van comes equipped with an auxiliary electric heater withtemperature control that has been fine for southern California desert camping. The electric heater is better for camping because it works without the engine on. The main heater doesn't work because the heater core needs repair.

An after-market stereo provides AM, FM, and CD sound. The speakers could use an upgrade, but the sound system works.

The van has internal storage which can be accessed by opening a large drawer or by raising a platform cover in the back. For additional storage, it has a cargo carrier behind the rear bumper. The cargo carrier can be locked and is also detachable.

Auxiliary Power

This Eurovan Weekender has a set of two deep cycle batteries to provide power when away from a 120 volt hook up. The auxiliary batteries output 12-volt electricity and have a combined capacity of 225-amp hours. Extra 12V electrical plug-ins are available in the back cabin.

The two coach batteries are charged automatically by a line from the alternator. They are independently wired and will not drain the engine battery under any circumstances. The batteries can also be charged by a wall charging unit designed to charge deep cycle batteries by converting 120-volt electricity (included). The batteries can also be charged by a solar panel (not included) although one is available for demonstration.

Summary

This van is a great option for long-term, affordable ownership or as a first step into camping. The Weekender was designed as a multipurpose vehicle; it is a good camping adventure van that also works for family hauling and projects and errands. You can use it to transport cargo or pets and at night place a mattress or sleeping bags on the carpeted floor and sleep.

The Eurovan Weekender fits in every parking garage and space made for a normal car. For persons that want to own a camper van but live in apartments buildings or townhouses with limited parking, this can be an advantage over other campers. It was garaged for years while I owned it.

If you want the fun of camping without the expense of buying a full-sized camper, the Weekender works well. Asking $14,500. Offers are welcome. The vehicle is in excellent condition with low miles and lots of extras.
