A true time capsule that has been garage stored and not driven since 1986.
History:Purchased new on August 8th 1980 by 81 year old Mr. Frauenberger from Don Sharp Motor Imports in Carlsbad CA.Driven sparingly until his death in 1986. His daughter took possession of the Vanagon parked it in her garage and never drove it again. The Vanagon was pulled out of the garage earlier this year for the first time in 31 years.
Work Performed: The fuel system had to be completely gone thru including a new tank, fuel pump, filter and flushing/cleaning the entire system. A new battery was installed and the oil changed.The Vanagon now starts right up and idles smooth. Run's and drives but is still riding on it's original tires that have flat spotted due to the extended storage.All the original paper work will be included. Other than the period correct Cobra CB the van is completely original.
The Vanagon did not escape 31 years of storage without a few bumps and dings. There is a small ding on the driver side of van along with a slightly dented hubcap both visible in the picture. Other imperfections include a few small scrapes on the bottom right corner of the rear hatch/door, a small star in the windshield about the size of a dime and a 3/8 inch hole in the middle of the rear bumper from a hitch that was removed.
Unfortunately my pictures don't do the van justice. It's beautiful and would look right at home in a museum or VW collection. The last picture was taken on the day it was pulled out of the garage for the first time since 1986.
