The work on the conversion was done by SmallCar Performance in Tacoma WA

SmallCar designed header
Custom manufactured engine mount system
Transmission cooler.
New engine mounts, modified for more strength
Shortened oil pan and pickup

The total bill was about $15,500 not including a new 2004 Subaru Turbo Engine (230 HP) and ECU which I provided.
The conversion was done in 2004 at 135K mile for the body and now I have just over 185K, about 50K mile on the Engine.
Within the last two years, 1,500 miles the following work was done:
Replaced wheel bearing and seals
Replaced axle shafts
Replaced brake pads
Flushed brake fluid
Rebuild power steering rack
Installed new shacks
Replaced E-service brake cables
Replaced front, passenger side upper control arm bushings
Replaced driver side rear wheel shaft, play in the bearings.
Driver and passenger power window motors
Replaced catalytic convertor and sensor (AZ emission valid through 04/19)
Installed new set of Pirelli P4 (215/60-17 on custom alloy wheels
Installed a set of Super Lamb sheepskin Front Seats, (shown in some photos), unfortunately I had them dry cleaned and they mess them up. I will include them in the sale but now there is a black set of seat covers.
Installed Bosal- VWHitch
Last upgrade it is a new set of custom Dual Halo Projector Headlights in Chrome with Angel rings, turning the night into a day.
I have owned this Van for the last 17 years and I have been using it constantly but not as the main transportation.
Now I'm retired and from two residences I'm scaling down to one and I don't have enough parking space, so I decided (not without pain) to keep the MB Sprinter instead of the Vanagon.
As I described above I did a lot to maintain it throughout the years and every time I go somewhere I get compliments or head turns.
As it is with most old VW's a lot can be improved and updated. It is a 26 years old van, running on par with the any other cars on the road, but do not expect a new car. It is recommended to contact me and arrange to come over to see it and drive it if possible so you know exactly what you buy. Make arrangements to have someone to inspect it before you decide to purchase. I love the van, I made it mine the way it is and it suits me. The next owner can easily use it as is, but there is no warranty or guaranty of any kind.
I will reply to any specific inquiries.
For someone who can appreciate this outstanding practical vehicle combination: a car, a van, a camper, a loading horse, taking in more than most pickup trucks out there, now is the time to act.
Thanks for looking andgood luck!
