Welcome to caliautobrokers Online Auctions. |
This is a 1973 Volkswagen412. This is a 100% rust free California car since new. The 1795 cc Flat-4 engine starts right up and runs extremely well. No leaks or smoke. The idle is smooth....The car accelerates positively and has substantial power. The entire drive-trainis solid and tight. The car is a lot of fun to drive. The 4 speed manual transmission shift easily and smoothly into all gears without any lurching or hesitation. The clutch feels great! The brakes steering and suspension are in good working order.
The odometer reading is 47,902 however due to the age and 5 digit odometer we cannot authenticate the mileage.
Cosmetically the car looks great, obviously not a concourse paint job, however the "pearl sunset" (house of Kolor) finish has a bright and luminous shine. The car was painted some years ago. Some of the prep work could have been done a little bit better as there is some over-spray in some areas with some minor bumbling in a few spots. There are various nicks and chips from normal drive time. No dents. Beautifully refinished bumpers and the car has a lovely color contrast. Overall the paint is nice, just NOT a show car. All original floors without any obvious traces of corrosion.
-Perfect jack points and structural integrity
-Rear ventilated valance was cut out on both sides to accommodateupgradedexhaustsystem (see pics)
The interior is very clean and was tastefully redone. Nicely restored and beautifully re-wrapped dash board, classy headliner and good looking seats/upholstery. The door panels-rear panels and carpeting are a-ok.
Overall this 412 is a (turn key) great running and nice looking European sports coupe. The car has a great stance, attractive wheels/bumpers-color scheme and is an absolute blast to drive.
Please note: There are no front seats belts or side view mirrors. Clip on vintage door mirrors are available inexpensively (approx $50) on eBay and other venues. Equipt with a nice Grant custom steering wheel (horn is inop).

some history if you are interested.....
"As Volkswagen's first 4-door saloon, the Type 4 also introduced unibody construction, coil springs, trailing wishbone rear suspension, hydraulic clutch manual transmission - as well as MacPherson strut front suspension, subsequently adapted to the VW Type 1 1302/1303 ("Super Beetle").
The Type 4's battery was located under the driver's seat (passenger seat on RHD models). All models featured vent-lessdriver and front passenger windows, notched on their leading edge to provide draught-free ventilation,[5] no cost metallic paint, radial ply tires, full carpeting, clock, electric rear window demister, flow-through ventilation, undercoating, and a thermostatically controlled auxiliary heating system,[4] specifically, a gasoline-operated heater model BA4 by Eberspächer, fired by a glow plug accessible from a hidden rear window deck plate.
When the Type 4 was discontinued in 1974, its engine carried on as the power plant for the larger-engined Volkswagen Type 2s, produced from 1972 to 1979, and for the later VW T25 from 1980-1983."
